Yeah that doesn't count. He was with the Houston team. He almost won AS MVP in 1992 and Terry Porter almost won the 3 pT contest but that's the thing. It's always been second best with us but tonight, we WON something.
Didn't Drexler unofficially get game MVP one year but instead it went to Magic? I honestly didn't follow the league as much when I was 10 as I do now so it's an honest question.
He didn't 'unofficially' win. He was clearly the MVP of that all star game, but they gave it to Magic because he had HIV. No matter how Clyde tried to take the high road, I have no doubt that stung then and stings now.
I would hope that Clyde got over that long ago. The things he should be upset over should be 90, 91 and 92.
Now he's opened himself to unrealistic expectations. You can't win a skills challenge without expecting to win an MVP next. Anything else and he's a disappointment.
oh, he's already one. He's not athletic, he didn't dominate the ruckers game...er..the rookie/soph game and he didn't make the all star? Bust. Btw, I think if he was on another team (bigger market) the fawning over him would be even greater. That speaks about his talent, imho
No, this isn't the first time a Trail Blazer has won. Geoff Petrie won the One-on-One contest in 1973. Defeating Barry Clemens and earning $15K and $500 for each of his teammates. Technically, it wasn't All-Star weekend because that didn't exist yet. Link: http://www.apbr.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1935
Good to see Blazer Wookie has Magic Johnson's medical records and can set the rest of the world straight. Because, of course, there are so many advantages in pretending to have HIV. And there were even more in 1992. How could anyone resist making the fake claim?
Magic is not completely cured. Thanks to medical advances, his optimal physical condition, and his financial means, his HIV titer is now no longer measurable. All that means is it is below where it can be measured using available technology. That is not the same as cured. He may well still be able to pass on the virus to others and should take the same precautions as any HIV+ person, for example, refraining from being a blood, tissue or organ donor and taking precautions during sexual activity.
Thank you for helping me confirm the correctness of my blurry memory of 1970s All-Star weekend events. This lying article, as NBA.com likes to do, claims that David Stern invented the wheel. http://www.nba.com/2013/news/02/17/sterns-all-star-legacy.ap/index.html
