I would if I were a team looking to make a splash in free agency. It really blocks a lot of what Portland can do without renouncing people
he can NOT be a player to get signed to 10 day contracts, so it looks pretty grim at this point. if he is signed, it would take ALOT of faith in his abilities, which seem non-existent.
I hear ya. I was under the impression, though, that there's no "significant" player in the upcoming 2009 free agency market that KP is realistically interested in. Rather, that he would potentially get his man via a trade (most likely involving Raef)?
pretty comprehensive list of the upcoming free agents including players with ETO's Player/Team Options, and Restricted and Unrestricted Free agents. edit: there is a more current list somewhere, a few of these players have signed extensions as of now (bynum/granger/rip hamilton)
we could make a run at marvin williams? i would almost like to see us pick up a few vets on reasonable, win me a ring, deals.
Marvin Williams might be the guy. He's a NW guy. His PER is getting up there. He's improved his shooting touch. He's finally looking like the player we all though he would be when he was drafted.
Marvin's a relatively young guy......not a proven vet. Meaning, would the amount it would take to get him here potentially create some dissention amongst the other guys?
I suppose it all depends on how consistent Marvin can be this season. I've put him on my list of players to watch throughout the year. Since you're in Atlanta, what are your thoughts on his demeanor? How would you say he would fit in with the Blazer "culture"?
I think he may have a chance at the deadline to get signed by a playoff team that thinks they are missing a peice or two if he continues to work hard and improve his conditioning and rebuild his game from that of a Slasher/SF to more of a PF banger around the rim player.
hmm do playoff games count against the 10 he needs to play? i doubt a playoff team would need him, but who knows.
I'm just curious what your definition of a "reduced deal" is. AI and Marion are each going to be hunting for $10+mil per year and Artest will at least demand an MLE type of deal. As for Kidd...he could still be looking at another contract worth $8-10 mil or so too, depending on how this season shakes out. If your definition of "reduced deal" is the type of deals that Malone and GP took a couple years back to join LA, you're crazy, because those guys aren't going to take that kind of a paycut.
haha, ok im crazy. woo hoo im smearing shit on the walls! im a loony! if you think AI is gonna get 10+ million, umm ok. Marion will be lucky to get the same. artest will be get the mle, and kidd will actually be lucky to get that. what you just described would be do-able with our cap room this offseason, just so you know. for the record i dont know if i would be in favor of all this, but it would be an interesting possibility.
Marvin Williams has been most successful as the SF. I believe he had to slip over to PF in the absence of Josh Smith. So far his over 16 PER has been because of his production at SF.
I'm not saying any of them deserve those contracts, but do you honestly think they're going to take a huge paycut, especially considering how productive they are and can still be a year from now?
The more I think about Marvin Williams the more it makes sense. I remember Pritchard, or at least there being rumors that Pritchard, was high on him. Even as young as he is he's becoming known as quite the defender. I'm seeing him defend the better perimeter players for the Hawks it seems like anymore. His one knock has been his outside shot. He's currently shooting over 50% from deep. He was already one of the best midrange shooters. I can't get past the thought that he was born up in Washington and most likely is chums with Brandon and Martell.
i think that vets will be very willing to come here at some sort of paycut in the now and forseeable future for the chance to play with LMA/roy/Oden/rudy. those particular players dont even necessarily intrigue me at this point though. and i was never talking about HUGE paycuts. we will have roughly 20-30 million in cap room.
