Bayless has waited patiently while people like Batum get to start and while inferior rookies around the league have gotten big minutes. Tonight, Bayless was given a chance where he knew from the outset that Blake was out and he would be getting big minutes. And he delivered. Of course, he needs to do it consistently, but I think he might be the best of our 4 rookies. He just hasn't had the minutes to show what he could do. Batum lucked out when Webster got hurt. And Bayless finally lucked out because of a Reggie Evans screen.
I saw him in Vegas tear it up in Summer League. His game there was no fluke. He's been by far the best option for this team at backup PG, but just needed a shot to prove it. He made his case tonight. The rest of the league is now on notice.
it really depends on how they play the rest of the time blake is out. i don't think this game by bayless was a fluke at all, but if he doesn't keep his play up and sergio picks up his play, then sergio will stay ahead of him. though i would expect that this game signals sergio moving behind bayless on the depth chart.
One or two more games like this and he will definitely move up in the rotation. I think Nate owes it to Sergio to give him one more shot on Saturday before he bumps him for the rookie. I am a huge Bayless fan, and I want to see him start, I am just being realistic when it comes to experience and veteran status.
I loved Bayless' game tonight (and love it in general) -- both ends of the court, but I sure hope people don't hold it against him when he still has up and down games, which are inevitable for a rookie.
i think bayless is going to be a better player than rudy(of course oden is better and will be better than both). is he right now? the answer to that seems pretty clear.
