    I think:

    1) We will resign Roy this week.

    2) We will not resign LA this week. That will be next week.

    3) Utah will match our offer on Milsap this week.

    4) If we make an offer to any other FA this week it will be a PG.

Utah will match the offer for Millsap.

Roy will publicly complain in the Portland market about his contract.

432 idiot posters will say in KP we trust.

KP will utter the words "we like our team" 17 times.

Utah will definitley match. Portland will not go after another free agent and will instead spend the money on Brandon and LMA and save some for Greg next year. In a couple of years 3 guys will be making 45-50 million a year.

Fans need to understand that Paul Allen will still out spend most teams, but three big contracts is about all any team can handle. Roy and LMA will not be this week, but it will get done. Now that BRoy has complained and fans are worrying, it will make it easier to justify to fans why they will not be using their Cap space this summer. Get Roy and LMA locked up and all is good.

It's immaterial whether or not Millsap signs with us. He fills a need, but not one that can't be easily replaced by another player. If he ends up with us, he'll be a wonderful backup to LMA. If he doesn't, we've hamstrung Utah. If his offer forces Utah to take less for Boozer in a three way with Chicago, that's fantastic. We're in a no-lose situation.

There will be some nice players available this Fall and Winter. There always are. If we have cap space, we can be a player in those trade talks. We'll also have some nice assets to ship out to obtain those players.

I think we'll come out of this stretch just fine, and a damn sight better than if we would have "won" free agency by getting Hedo.

What if Utah is able to deal Boozer for 1 or 2 expiring contracts though?

Purely hypothetically here, but let's say Utah deals Boozer to Miami for the expiring contracts of Haslem and James Jones. I don't think that makes Utah worse because Millsap has shown he can produce in a starters role. Halsem would be a great back up, and Jones gives them another shooter. Both Haslme and Jones are expriing, Utah could probably deal 1 or both seperatley or together at the deadline to cut their tax liability down a ton.

    Boozer is an expiring contract.

    I understand that.

My point was that Utah could trade him for 1 or more expiring contracts, or simply hold on to him and deal him at the deadline

What's the point of dealing him for more expiring contracts? They won't save enough money to get out of lux tax since they need to bring back ~10Million.

What it does is make it easier for them to get out from those contracts at the deadline.

Making a trade to Miami doesn't sove their basic problem of having to pay Millsap a big signing bonus plus get nailed for a huge tax payment this year.

Like I said, we put the Jazz in cap hell regardless. Here are the sums of their large contracts (calculated by their salary cap hit) over the next few years:

2009-10 - $58,140,943 (Williams, Kirilenko, Okur, Boozer, Millsap)

    2010-11 - $50,302,620 (Williams, Kirilenko, Okur, Millsap)

    2011-12 - $35,740,916 (Williams, Okur, Millsap)

If you're talking about a falling cap and luxury tax for the next two years after this one, that's a killer for a team that isn't competing for a ring.

Again, for what? Do they assume more salary obligation? Chances are they take the savings themselves if finances are driving the Jazz train.

Mostly a lot of hysterical women swinging their handbags around fighting to get on the last life boat complaining that their clothes are getting wet as they are loaded in by the men.

Amen, I'm really REALLY sick of all the doomsaying. If Roy DOESN'T sign a contract then you can doomsay all you want. Everything else is a cosmetic change or an attempt to vault into contention.

Other then the Roy contract thing, which will almost CERTAINLY resolve itself, there is nothing that is that big of a deal for pity's sake. Don't buy into the narrative "Summer of disaster" it's simply not true.

Look Kobe was demanding a trade and calling Bynum worthless 2 years ago this time and everyone thought LA was melting down. Now two years later they have two finals appearances and a ring/banner.

Contract negotiations for max money are a big deal and not everyone is quite a loose with the $ as Toronto. I personally was worried we would take Hedo onboard and regret it later. Now Toronto is stuck with that future Albatross contract.

Look Roy deserves to be maxxed and he will get it. This is more to do with LMA and Oden's contracts then Roy's.
