Sure it does. My best friend has played drums for 15 years can't play the drums on Rockband for shit. Meanwhile, my other friend who has never played an instrument of any kind looks like Neil Peart when he plays that game. While drumming experience helps with the coordination, it doesn't make you automatically awesome at Rockband. Same goes with playing guitar.
