He had the choice of a limo, but decided against it. "That'd make me seem like I was parading how rich I am now. That's not how I roll." He was driving to the press conference where the Atlanta Hawks would officially announce him in as the new General Manager of the Hawks franchise. Quite frankly, the Hawks weren't in his top 5 choices as a team to manage, but they were the only one desperate enough to take him in with no experience. Later he was to be on Pardon the Interruption. What a day it was shaping up to be! As the sedan pulled up outside the doors of the Philips Arena, he started getting a bit nervous. At age 24, he would be the youngest Hawks GM ever. Hell, he'd be younger than some of the players. But he had an edge to him that the Hawks liked. Lewis Meyer had talked with him and told him a few questions the media might ask. Johnson had already started to hate the media. Nosy assholes, just ask those overpaid jerks on the sports shows what I'll do next, I'm sure they'll be glad to put in their annoying opinions. He walked into the building, and headed toward the silently yet incessantly moving escalator. Towards the upstairs. Towards the media room. Towards his doom. He was running a bit late, but hopefully he'd be there in time. He opened the back door and stood behind the wall. Right on time. Practically on queue, Lewis Meyer was just saying, "I'd like to introduce to you the new general manager, of the Atlanta Hawks franchise." CJ walked out, sweating in his well-pressed new black suit. He squinted at the press as his eyes were blinded by the flashes of camera bulbs, combined with the fact that he hadn't gotten used to the room's lighting yet. Standing behind the podium, Lewis Meyer on his right, Mike Woodson, the coach of the team(who he had yet to speak to), on his left. Hands on the sides of the podium, he started. "It is my honor, to be the new general manager of the Atlanta Hawks franchise..."To be continued...

Quick Note: I'm not using my last name anymore [IMG] CJ Johnson's the name now.CJ Johnson shifted uncomfortably in his chair. He had done the wrong thing and gone against the advice of former GM, Billy Knight: He had been watching the media. They called him too young. They called him inexperienced. They said he had no desire to be Hawks GM. Things had gone well the first week or two, but now the media was slamming him ever since he lashed out at a reporter that had been making things up about him. Johnson had always hated the media, they were nosy imbeciles who would do anything to keep their jobs, in his opinion. Anyway, it was about time for him to meet with Lewis Meyer, the owner of the Hawks. "Mr. Johnson, Mr. Meyer will see you now." "Thanks Cindy."He walked into the room. It was dank and musty smelling in Mr. Meyer's office. Mr. Meyer was a volatile person, quite like Johnson. Perhaps that's why Meyer liked Johnson. "Look CJ, don't listen to those media assholes. It's rare anymore to get a quote right anyway, just worry about the Hawks." He paused, then "Just decline all press invitations for awhile, at least until the season starts." Johnson sighed, then slumped in the chair opposite Meyer's desk and looked around the room. There were bookcases, but you could tell by the large amount of dust covering the books that the books went unread. The window looked out onto the nearest street and the hotel across from the offices, which were located right in Philips Arena. Johnson then glanced over at the armoire. It was a large armoire, and nobody except Mr. Meyer knew what was in it. Mr. Meyer had always kept it a secret and refused to tell anyone what was in it. Not even a hint. "CJ, it's about time you met the coach."Johnson watched from the overhang that overlooked the practice gym. The overhang was 1 way glass, so the players never knew if there was someone there or not. Johnson could hear and watch the whole practice. "Shelden! Get back in position! Joe! Dish that ball if you're being double teamed. And J-Chill!... God damn it J-Chill stop screwing around." This wasn't the first practice Johnson had watched. It was the 3rd, and every practice Josh Childress was screwing around. "I swear if he doesn't kick it up big time regular season I'll trade his sh*t out of here," Johnson vowed.Toward the end of the 2 hour practice, Johnson and Meyer silently slipped in the door. They stood behind Woodson. Suddenly, the players, who hadn't met Johnson before, but had seen him in the news, shaped up big time. They started playing harder. Johnson and Meyer followed Woodson, but stayed behind his back so as not to be seen yet. Woodson walked over to his assistant. "Odd, I don't think I've seen them play this hard in some time." His assistant merely pointed behind him. Woodson spun around. "Coach Woodson, meet General Manager CJ Johnson. Johnson, this is Coach Woodson."

CJ Johnson stepped into his own comfy cozy office with Coach Woodson. It was the day after, and they'd arranged a meeting to discuss goals for the season. "God DAMN this is a nice office. Is that leather? Jesus louise-us, this is probably better than old Meyer's office. Woodson was quite an interesting person, most people figured he was on drugs. Nobody knew why the hell he was hired in the first place. Rumoredly, he'd gotten Meyer high. "Well, Coach, what are your goals for this season?" "Hey, dawg, I just don't wanna get my fu*kin black ass fired." Woodson then started giggling uncontrollably."Well that was a total f*cking waste of time." Johnson was with his assistant, Jesse, walking into his favorite local sandwich place. "I don't think I'll keep him longer than his current contract ends." "Well, we can see how you run practice, Woodson is sick with flu today, so the GM gets to step in." It was a week after the meeting, and Johnson was starting to develop thoughts of who he wanted to keep and who he wanted to trade.@ the gym: "Josh you piece of sh*t! Get over here and inbound the damn ball!" Johnson was getting rather pissed at the pothead punk. "Hey yo, daddy-o, don't rush the Chill. I be the best this team has and you better pay me when I end my rook contract." "F*ck you." Johnson had quickly realized it wasn't him that whipped them into shape during that first practice. It was Meyer. Perhaps it has to do with that armoire, Johnson thought. Maybe he keeps a gun or something in there. The rest of practice went poorly, and Johnson wasn't impressed or amused with the team. Few were actually working hard. He'd decided he really liked Marvin Williams and Joe Johnson. Josh Smith he liked a lot too, he just needed to start motivating Josh. Speedy Claxton he could empathize with as they were both new to town and somewhat unsure of how to act around these other clowns. Salim Stoudamire he liked in the same way as Josh Smith. Batista, Ivey, Lue, Pachulia and Lorenzen Wright were all nice enough. Shelden Williams, Dijon Thompson, Medvedenko, and solomon Jones he didnt' really care about either way. And JChill he hated. This would be an interesting season.
