Sobis stays for now

Rafael Sóbis’ proposed move to Al-Jazira has collapsed, forcing the player to remain at Real Betis despite the club having officially discarded him last week.

The Brazilian forward was identified as surplus to requirements at the Ruiz de Lopera early in the summer but in spite of that, Betis have failed to negotiate his departure.

He had been linked with numerous clubs of all sizes across Europe, including 1899 Hoffenheim, Benfica, Newcastle United, and most recently from the Middle-East, Al-Jazira Club from the UAE League.

But Betis’ refusal to budge on his valuation of around €10 million appear to have cost the bronze medallist a way out, despite coach Paco Chaparro’s insistence to offload the 22 year old.

Los Verdiblancos sporting director Manolo Momparlet has now confirmed that the former Internacional man will continue at Betis for the time being.

“Sóbis will remain a Betis player, even though we confirmed previously that he had been transferred to Al-Jazira,” Momparlet told reporters during the club’s presentation of new forward Sergio Garc�*a yesterday.

“But we are still working to facilitate a move and they continue to listen to our offers,” added the sports director.
