Pretty funny that one of the most compelling matchups this season comes and goes with relatively no coverage. The Sonics played last night for the first time in front of all of their owners and quite possibly their future fan base. The game was a microcosm of the entire season. The team played hard with an undermanned club and couldn't execute well enough down the stretch to win. They fought hard to get back into a game that seemed to be lost but didn't have enough in the tank to carry that momentum into overtime. What else is new? Interesting quotes from Bennett from the owner player meet and greet session before the game: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Even Sonics chairman Clay Bennett, a native of Oklahoma City, admits he is torn between rooting for the team he owns and the team his native city has adopted and which he attempted to become a minority owner of with majority owner George Shinn. ?Clearly, the Hornets have been very special here, and I?ve grown to appreciate the players and coaches and know them now personally and like them very much. There?s a real connection there and I support them,? Bennett told The Associated Press. ?At the same time, I certainly am going to support the Sonics. I hope for a good, competitive, enjoyable game.?</div> I guess Clay wants more ping pong balls too - and more justification to clean house completely. And this has to be one of the more funny stories that I've read this year: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Fortson skips dentist, too Sonics coach Bob Hill said forward Danny Fortson was supposed to go to the dentist Monday for a toothache that kept him home from this two-game trip. Fortson apparently canceled the appointment, though Hill did not know why.</div> Link This season has been an absolute joke. I am still happy the the team is competing but I would also like to see Mo' Sene get some playing time. If you are going to invest our highest draft pick in 17 years on a project big you should give him an opportunity to gain some experience when there essentially is nothing to play for. We can still remain competitive with him getting 10-20 minutes of action. I don't think that he could have played worse in a minutes action than he did last night. (Over the back foul, missed defensive assignment, was not back for basket protection after a made free throw with 2 seconds to go in the half, and did not box out on the And One lay up with one second to go and allowed the Hornets to get a tip in before the half). Who says that former mechanics don't make good lottery picks? It's all going to be over soon.
Not much to say about this season. It's kind of hard to root for a team you expect to be gone at the end of the next year.
