How many games does Soto play for the Mets before he suffers a bizarre/freak season-ending injury? I'll be it happens before the All-star break.
 
Didn't want to be basking in Judge's shadow for 5 years, as a Mutt by that time he'll own most of their all time records.

The Yankees are the most profitable team in baseball clueless one, that's why fans get frustrated when the Steinbrenners get tight with the money and sweat the luxury tax . I give Cohen credit for spending the money, more so for convincing gullible Mutt fans last season that their $300+ mil roster wouldn't be competitive, somewhere PT Barnum is smiling.
 
What you dickhead Yankee fans don’t understand is that the only reason you won championships was because you’re financial advantage for five decades was so unbelievably absurd that you got all the best players. Most of you dumbass fans act like you saw all the championships and you barely saw any. I’m not even a Mets fan, but I can tell you this, your run is fucking over. The only reason you made it to the World Series was because of Soto and an unbelievably easy road. The Yankees have stolen players from other teams forever and now it’s happening to you and you don’t fucking like it.
 
The facts do show what kreider is saying. The Yanks didn't make the WS from 2009 until 2024, the only year Soto was on the team.

Yankee fans are entitled, and I get it. In the 90's/early 2000's all the Yanks did was win, and that doesn't even take into account their long successful history. But those days are over, kreider is 100% right. Now the Yanks are like 4 or 5 other teams that spend big, and we'll see how it goes. It used to be they were in a class by themselves, that is no longer the case. And again, the facts and results show it. Until 2024, the Yanks hadn't even made the WS since 2009. Now we'll see if they can do it without Soto.

Cohen is a Mets fans dream owner, especially after the Wilpon's who were cheap as F. Cohen isn't baseball rich, he's real-world rich, one of the richest people in the world. The Mets from this past season were not great on paper, and the low expectations were absolutely justified, despite their payroll numbers, which were inflated by dead money to players. Now they are climbing back up on the field as well with Soto, and I expect them to add 2 or 3 more players, a hitter (does Alonso come back), and a SP and a RP. I also expect the Yanks to make use of the $760M Soto passed on to sign with the Mets, I am sure they will add some top-level talent and be just fine, especially in the weaker AL.
 
Speaking as a Phillies fan (my sports allegiance is all over the map) I should first say fuck both of you asshole yankees/mets fans....
but the Yankees hardly bought their WS championships, at least the ones in my adult lifetime with the exception of 2009. Their run in 90's was driven almost entirely by homegrown players Jeter, Posada, Petitte, Rivera, Williams etc.
If anything the Yankees and Mets have demonstrated that stockpiling high priced free agents is not a WS championship recipe considering they have won a combined 1 WS since their subway series in 2000. No team is entirely constructed with homegrown players, you have to bring in impactful players through trades and free agency, rule 5 drafts etc.
Congrats to the Mets for signing Soto, I'm disappointed the Phils have to play against him 12 times a year for the next decade+. But baseball is a torturously long slog and a lot can/will happen in a season that no one could see coming.
 
Well said, the Yanks core was homegrown in the 90's, and then they had the vast resource advantage to supplement that core with good FA's and to re-sign that core as they came up for contract extensions. That is the best recipe for success. It is difficult in any sport to 100% buy your team, you need some homegrown talent. It is also why I like what the Mets did getting top prospects for Scherzer and Verlander and having a few kids of their own sprinkled in with the FA's. We'll see if it works in the marathon baseball season.
 
It's over for the Yankees. Your GM is a moron. He went out and got a player who made it clear he was all about money for a one year rental. In the process gave up King who has turned out to be a very good starter. He has a generational player in Judge and he's never put a team around him with any depth in the lineup. You lost your financial advantage over at least 10-11 teams 1o to 12 years ago. Which is why you've made one World Series since then which was pretty much a fluke. It took things to break perfectly for the Yankees to face the easy road they did in last years playoffs. Your organization didn't even draft Judge originally. Oakland did. However, much like Fox did with the Rangers, Judge refused to sign with them because he wanted to be a Yankee. If that didn't happen, this team would be a complete, heaping pile of shit.
 
Look at the Dodgers roster and get back to me on the effectiveness of that free agent stockpiling theory. The Yankees are always going to be in the mix for any high priced free agent, what's different from 20 years ago is more teams have owners willing to spend money.
 
The Dodgers are the blueprint the Mets want to follow. Have some of your own homegrown kids, and add FA's accordingly, of course in both cases their payroll will be huge. And what you said is spot on Panzer, the Yanks are not alone anymore. They are still a clear top level have organization, but they used to be one of one, now they are one of 5 or 6 or 7 organizations that will spend big.

I always thought the biggest thing spending tons of money on your baseball team does is almost guarantee you'll be in the playoff mix most seasons, it does not guarantee a title. That's how I view the big advantage those 5-7 organizations have.
 
You'll most likely see your dumbass GM sign another 2-3 players who will suck which is his history. Especially with pitchers. Rodon is his latest clusterfuck move. The Yankees are no longer a desirable place to play.

I was referring to the effectiveness for the teams mentioned (Mets/Yankees).
 
Dump, you're an A's fan as I remember right? I'm an O's fan, but I always like seeing the Mets do well. Growing up in NJ they were actually the first team I pulled for but were terrible in the Swan/Flynn days. I kind of latched onto the Orioles during the 79 season and was a big Singleton fan.
 
I'm trying to think of a team that won a world series without adding any free agents in the last 30 years, Anaheim is the only one that comes to mind because their payroll was so low
 
The farm system is still the key to winning unless you’re the Dodgers, who are an outlier.

Maybe the Royals in 2015.
 
I think you need both, homegrown talent supplemented with FA's. That's the recipe to success as I see it. Hard to do either fully, unless you are a smaller market team that stockpiles top picks for years, then has a few years window until the players leave, see the 2015 Royals and a few of the Rays teams.
