<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The AJC recently printed a lengthy letter from someone defending Steve Belkin for not wanting to pay $70 million to Joe Johnson for five years and for also giving Boris Diaw and two first-round draft picks to Phoenix. He also ripped GM Billy Knight and the other owners. I totally disagree. Belkin was just too cheap to pay the going rate for a top-flight NBA player like Johnson. The Hawks are better off to be rid of Belkin. With cheap owners like him, the Hawks never would be able to field a competitive team. Diaw was a total flop as a first-round pick in 2003. The two first-round picks are lottery protected, which means if the Hawks are eligible for a lottery pick that year they'll be able to keep the pick for a really top player. I was very dubious when the first thing Knight did when he took over was blow up the existing team to create salary cap space. But in his first draft last year he picked Josh Childress and Josh Smith. This year he used the No. 2 pick on Marvin Williams, who most experts say has the talent to be a superstar. Also this year, Knight got Salim Stoudamire, who as the first pick of the second round might be the steal of the draft. He led all of college basketball last year from 3-point range by shooting 50 percent. </div> Source
didn't knight draft diaw? diaw wasn't that bad to me. maybe we expected too much from diaw. anyway, maybe we did overpay him a little in terms of talent. what if they didn't match? sure we need to give up talent to get talent and noone want to come here so we need to start somewhere but, i don't know. i trust billy knight though
I imagine BK would want to be left alone, and have all the questioning of his ideas stop. after the belkin thing, can you blame him?
With rebuilding teams, fans always have to show patience and wait for the GM's plan to unfold. Unfortunately, fans never seem to be able to look to the future instead of at the present situation, and that's why you always have malcontents who call for an unwarranted firing.
