They could use the Mini mid-level exception. I believe it was 3 MIL this year. It may go up slightly for next year.

So offering Dalembert 4.5 MIL or so is overpaying? I don't think so. He still wouldn't be my first choice obviously but I don't think that price is bad.

2 sounds perfect, 3 is too long.

Both years guaranteed or with a team option for the second year?

I would start with the second option but I would give him the first if he pushed for it and was serious about coming.

I would only consider that deal with the team option. Of course, that's after checking the primary options first.

Say the other realistic options are gone and the other option is starting whoever we pick at #10 or Leonard.

    I jump all over Dalembert.

Well, I believe you treat his contract like a stop gap at that point. Preserve cap space again as early as possible.

I'd rather go after Dieng with a possible trade down in the first round.

And start him (the rookie)? I still want a two year tutor for Dieng even if he is our pick.

I don't expect Dalembert to help us beyond the first round in the immediate future. And he probably won't be considered a piece for the future.

Stop gap is just that. I don't care much for stop gaps unless we are a playoff team and on the verge of going to the next step.

I don't think Dalembert is your normal stop gag. He is getting up there in age but the guy had a very productive year when they let him play. Center as whole is horrible in the NBA. He might be a top 15 guy.

I just don't see your scenario happening of turning it over to a rookie. Olshey has basically guaranteed Paul Allen playoffs this coming season. He isn't going to gamble that on a young guy.

Neither of our scenarios will probably have to happen luckily though.

I wouldn't turn it over to a rookie.

What are you expecting from Dalembert production wise?

It's apparent you think he can be a starting center for our team. Are there more expectations other than that?

    Solid player
    Doesn't kill long-term cap space
An improvement and can defend a bit
Maybe can mentor Leonard a bit

Best C idea I've seen yet.

Yeah Miami really is perfect for him. His home being in Boca, family in the area, close to his native land.

Unless Seattle gets a team, you can't get much father away than Portland. But at this point in his career, money talks. But how much more would it take than what Miami may offer? I would say 2 million a year more. Remember no Florida state income tax.....no extra home to buy or rent.......

Depends on minutes that he can handle or coach is willing to give him of course.

I think he can be a 11.5/9.5/1.5 guy in 29-31 minutes a game though.

What he does for the team? Gets us to playoffs assuming we get a 6th man. Does he get us out of 1st round? No. But outside of Howard I can't think of a player who does get us out of the 1st round our first year.

You never know. Other than OKC, I can see Denver getting better and the Clippers (If they keep their deep bench) But you never know about Houston, SA is getting older, Memphis could lose Allen, the Lakers could just suck, and GS is exciting but beatable.

So we need to end up 5th out of 8. OK maybe you are right.

It is optimistic on the scoring for sure (we are Blazer fans after-all) but he has done those rebound and block shot numbers before and that is what we really need. Not worried about scoring.
