Love for George would make the Cavs quite a bit better and allow them to match up better with Golden State. But it'd be a huge risk--if George did leave, they'd be without him and Love. Probably be the end of Cleveland's contender status.
LeBron leaving in the Summer of '18 will be the end of CLE's contender status. Maybe it's the right answer to throw all-in on PG for a ring next year, then shed PG/LBJ/JR/etc. in 2018 and rebuild.
And Love's salary. KLove is OK but I don't think he is the reason they are a contender. Lebron and Kyrie are their big 2. I don't think they have a big 3. PG is worth the gamble even for 1 year.
There is going to some team hung out to dry by the end of draft day. Some team that wanted to make a move and now is desperate. Say Indiana is desperate to move George and gets nowhere with their demands. Olshey needs to make like Robert Redford in The Sting and use the situation to his advantage. Just totally honey dick them. That's how we get from being last playoff seed to being a contender.
They'd be capped out even without Love's salary. I agree with Brian, though--it does work well for James, since he can bail next off-season if George leaves.
Only for a year. Losing his 24 million per could come in handy. Hard to say now put it could help them be more flexible. Just saying that it would be worth it for a year to get George.
Especially if LBJ leaves next summer. Clears a ton of cap space for rebuilding, which makes sense - Love is worthless in Cleveland if LBJ is gone. And if it works in Cleveland this season, they both re-up.
If that's at all accurate, it seems like Pritchard's tactic is working. If he rooks the Lakers into giving up the #2 simply by setting up the Cavaliers as a stalking horse, Pritchard deserves the 2018 Executive of the Year award immediately. That would be worse than the Knicks giving up a package of interesting players for Melo ahead of him simply signing with them.
I would to, but I will be surprised if it does. They will dangle Randle and Russell and eventually end up with Ingram...... since they play the same position.
The only possible deal here is Love for George I guess. Maybe a package of Tristan Thompson plus another piece but it doesn't really make sense for Indiana as TT is not somebodt you build around and they have a better center talent in Myles Turner. If Lakers give up #2 for him it'll be gross overpay. However, a lot of rumors lately about LA not being that keen on Lonzo Ball, if that is so, I can see this happening.
