Okay, I need to get fast for basketball season... I have 2 weeks till basketball tryouts and I know I will be a lock IF I get faster... Any tips?
Shuttle runs, agility drills. Work on stopping and starting really fast.Long distance runs in the morning don't hurt.
What are shuttle runs and can you tell me some agility drills? Also, would 1-2 times around my street (15-20 houses on each side) be good in the morning or do I have to do a set distance?

Sprint for as long as you can around the block... it helps when you have let's say 200m to run because I can guarantee it will get tiring. Focus on this and you'll get faster no doubt. Also just really really getting active all the time. Set goals

I guess just wikipedia it if it's not clear enough.
If you have access to a court, run suicides. Everyone knows what them are right? Also if you can get to a court, go from one end, dirbbling the ball as fast as you can, and work on your pull up jumper and layups. sh*t like that. That will make you faster with the ball, and help your offensive game out a little. Also do alot of drills while dribbling the ball. Don't just run. Think game speed.

When I was younger, was one of the slowest people ever. Now I am easily one of the fastest in my school.
I was born fast... I guess it's easy for me to say to train on all these things because I'm such an energetic guy and all...Just train on running and running and you will see results. You won't be the best unless you're lucky
<span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">I got in a race with a kid yesterday. I scorched the sh*t outta old boy. I run pretty fast. I don't know how you'll get fast, but if nothing else, just stop trying (no offense).</span>
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Saint Baller @ Oct 21 2006, 05:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Well, I am fast... But the thing is I am not conditioned much so I slow down very quickly....</div>Yeah that is most of the reason I got 3rd in my school's 200m race. I'm very fast but 200m is a long way to sprint and if I wouldve ran my top the whole race I wouldve got 2nd.1st is impossible because that guy is like the best sprinter in the city of winnipeg :thumbdn1:
Try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). Look it up to get a better understanding. This is a very stressful way to run but it will get you faster and have better endurance. The key is to have a period of time where you are going full out and an easy period. Usually you 50/50 of intense vs. easy. For basketball specifically you might run to full out sprint for 30 seconds and walk or slow jog for 30-60 seconds. Depends on how good of shape you are in on your rest period. I would start with 60 seconds. Do this for 2 miles and you should be totally exhausted when you are done. The most you should do this in a week is 3 times. Anymore and you are risking burnout or injuries. Make sure you warmup and stretch before and after well.
