Rick Spielman went nuts yesterday and cut 2 scrubs(Griese and Todd Perry) plus one aging vet(Tim Ruddy), restructured the contract of 6 vets and re-signed Arturo Freeman and David Bowens, and at the end of day, cleared a little more than $18 million dollars from the Dolphins salary cap, putting them about $7mil under the cap....Ill say one thing for Spielman, he works fast and gets results, that was one helluva job getting the team out of the cap doghouse and ready for free agency....he will be my hero if he overrules Wannstedt and releases Fiedler to clear his $5.7 mil cap number, that would give the Dolphins atleast $12 mil in cap room and allow them to sign just about whoever they wanted(I say allow Ogunleye to leave, get the compensation, but replace him with Florida native and freak Jevon Kearse, that would be a scary pair of rush ends)
I take back a few of the things I've said about Spielman. It must be great to not having the Vanilla One eyeballing and complaining about every move. I was not surprised about any of the moves. I read Miami may release Knight instead of Marion which is the wrong move IMO. Freeman s/b the FS next season & Knight the SS. Getting Kearse would be nice but miminal changes are needed on the Defense. Upgrading the Interior line, WR, & QB s/b the focus of the off season. Depth @ LB couldn't hurt.
With the kind of money they could have after clearing Fiedlers cap charge, they could sign Damian Woody to play guard and attempt to sign Darrell Jackson of the Seahawks, depending on his tender level....I agree with cutting Marion and keeping Knight, Freeman is a natural FS and Knight played well last year and has a hsitory as a major playmaker
I have seen where my BEARS may be interested in GRIESE as a backup( better then keeping KORDELL ,I guess). Please leave KEARSE for us, we could use him more and I hope that I don't need to borrow that bag by the end of the season BEEF.
