Did anyone see what happened between Pierce and the Cavalier's bench last night? While I agree with Pierce (that if its the 4th quarter and you haven't taken your warm-ups off yet then you have no right to talk) he's got to stay more composed than that. Jees, its still the preseason. And I give it 3 days until we see the first "Payton is bad influence" from a certain writer in the Boston area. :thumbsdow
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Late in the third quarter, Pierce spit at the Cleveland bench after yelling at the Cavaliers substitutes to sit down. "That's just nasty right there," said forward Ira Newble, on the Cavs bench at the time.</div> Full Story: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/bask...s.ap/index.html I noticed something rather funny as I was reading the article, and it was: "We didn't say nothing to him," Cleveland guard Luke Jackson said. James, sitting nearby, interjected, "Leave my rookie alone. Go ask Paul Pierce." James is only a second year player, and he's speaking like a vet.
I watched the game on LP and I don't condone Pierce spitting on the Cavs bench. :thumbsdow However, anyone foolish enough to believe they didn't say or do something to prompt that reaction from Pierce is living in fantasy land. The Cavs bench had been vocal all game and I recall both GP (ok, maybe not the best person to use) and Blount both saying and providing dirty looks towards their bench when passing by. Regardless, Pierce will be fined, the Cavs bench will act like they're saints, and the next time the 2 meet, the media will overplay the incident, ad nauseum. Let's move on.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting kobe_8:</div><div class="quote_post">what a classless act by paul pierce.</div> That's interesting to me coming from a person who's profile says their favorite player is Kobe Bryant... who is, at best, an adulterer.

And if this continues, it will be a Paul v Kobe thing.

You guys find a way to connect Kobe to everything....even if he was on the opposite coast at the time .
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">what a classless act by paul pierce.</div> In the larger scope of things, you're right. However, left with nothing more than that comment to work from, someone with Kobe_8 as his username and Kobe Bryant listed as his favorite player, shouldn't be casting dispersions at any other player.
What does Kobe Bryant have to do with this incident? Okay maybe LeBron is the "next Kobe" but come on guys drop it.
Didn't you guys get the memo? Everything in the NBA and quite possibly our universe revolves around Kobe Bryant. Therefore, no matter how far removed from the topic he is, he can simply be inserted into the convo at any time, no matter how tenuous the connection.... Ok, now that I've gotten my sarcasm fix for the day, let's talk about the actual issue at hand again.
I am not quite sure how this came all about, but I did hear of it. There always have been tensions between the Cavaliers and the Celtics even from the early 90's. These two teams hate each other. Add in Cleveland's nightmare, Ricky Davis and we have ourselves a rivalry reborn. The Celts are just, not playing well this preseason and Paul showed his frustrations towards the other team. He is just being a ball player, being competitive and trying to get into the bench's heads. To me, it's not a big deal, but I don't think spitting would have solved any issues.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Infante:</div><div class="quote_post"> He is just being a ball player, being competitive and trying to get into the bench's heads. </div> That is not at all what he was doing. In fact, he even said "If you haven't taken off your warm-ups, you have no business talking". Why would he be trying to get into the heads of bench players that hadn't even played in the game? He was retaliating for their (alleged) comments/taunting.
Yeah, PP let their taunts get to him and in a moment of weakness, did something stupid. He's right in that if you haven't even gotten into the game, you shouldn't be talking smack, but shouldn't have taken the action he did. He should do his talking on the court, not trading barbs (and spit) with the scrubs on the other teams bench. He screwed up, but I'm not going to worry too much about it. There are worse things that could have happened.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LeBron James and the Celtics' Paul Pierce were at the center of several heated exchanges Monday night, one on the court that resulted in technical fouls on each other, and again in the hallway leading to the dressing rooms after the game. Yea this incident was just an incedent when they were both caught up in the game and it got a little out of hand. This story isn't anything of colossal porportions.

Anyone who has played basketball knows that that's how it is. I will talk smack and give hard fouls to my best of friend's if we are on opposite teams.
