I'm off today so I'm bored so I'm reading sporting news nfl preview and here's who they had for their sleepers.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Cardinals. They were supposed to be the sleeper team last year but don't give up on them yet. Denny Green's program continues to tae root, and the Cardinals have addressed problem spots. Playing in a new stadium and signing Edgerrin James should give the team a spark. It will be up to Kurt Warner and the offensive line to make sure the spark turns</div>
ehh I still don't like Warner and the offensive line is weak. I think they'll be decent but they're not a playoff team in my opinion.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Packers. Everyone wants to write them off, but writing off Brett Favre never is wise. Understand this about Favre: If the players around him are capable, he will not make the kinds of ill-advised throws he made a year ago. Favre took unwise risks because that was the only way for him to try and keep his team in games. The Packers are healthier this year, and they've added some good young players. They're not done yet.</div>
These guys must've read nfl-forums.com and saw everything Porky was saying about Favre. I won't label the Pack as a Wild Card team and the magazine didn't but I still think a 500 season is reachable. Like I said, I'm hoping for a similar year to what the Dolphins had last year. Beat the teams you should beat. IE: Jets, Niners, Saints, Lions, etc..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Browns. They won six game last season, mostly with coaching and mirrors. They've improved their talent considerably through the free-agent market and the draft. They also imported some veteran leadership in the form of Willie McGinest and Ted Washington. The bottom line: The Browns will go as far as 2nd year Quarterback Charlie Fyre can take them</div>
I agree with everything said. If Fyre plays well they'll be dangerous. Not a playoff team but dangerous. If he plays bad, then this team has little chance of doing much.

Cardinals seem to be a favorite sleeper of the "experts" every year. They have to be right one of these year's right? lol

I don't see the Packers making any noise this year at all. I think they would have been better off if #4 had hung it up for good already.

I like the Browns. Of course I'm a fan of Romeo. I like the mix of young & veteran talent they have there.

I keep hearing this from people, but I don't understand the rationale. You think the Packers are better off with Aaron Rodgers under center? I don't think so...

Yeah, Rodgers wasn't impressive last off season and he struggled during mini camps. So they're is no way GB is better off with Rodgers. I think it's better for him to take a year and learn the system and come in next year. If he played this year, I'd see a JP Losman type of peformance. Now that he has another year maybe he can give us a Chad Pennington type of deal (Pennington sat 2 years and was good until injuries) I still have my doubts though.

I know he's the exception, but Brady got thrown to the wolves & he excelled. If Brett weren't making so many unforced errors out there then I would say sure let the kid watch, but he could pick up some bad habits from the old vet.

ehh you haven't seen Rodgers play like we have. Right now he's not ready and if he were to get thrown in, GB would get JP Losman numbers out of him.

Intresting enough Sporting News is really down on the NFC North...

    1. Bears 8-8
    2. Packers 7-9
    3. Vikings 6-10
    4. Lions 4-12

I don't think the NFC North is that bad. Their not as bad as the NFC West and I think the Bears, Vikings, and Pack will suprise some people this year (finish with more wins than what people think)

    3. Vikings 5-11
    4. Lions 3-13

BTW, the Bears got most of their wins from beating their division rivals. [IMG]

I think the Chargers are going to be sleepers this year. I think Philip Rivers will lead the Chargers to the playoffs.

The Ravens are probly the biggest sleepers because they could be alright or great next year, it all depends on steve mcnair. They have a great defense with Reed, McAllister, Lewis and Suggs. They have two good RBs, one great Tackle, and 2 good WRs.

Mmmm...nope. This will be the year that the Chargers say, "Gee...why didn't we keep Drew Brees?"

They also had Tampa Bay as super bowl favorites for years in a row - finally they were right. I think Arizona has a chance at having a breakout year, although I would guess they are still one year away from being dominant.

FWIW, I actually have the Vikings pegged at 5-11. I know a lot of Viking fans who hate me for this, but I just don't have confidence in a brand new coaching staff in which most people are rookies at their position. I think it is a recipe for disaster. I will, however, be the first jumping on the Vikings bandwagon if they prove me wrong just as I will continue to watch and support them if my prediction is right.

Yes, that is true. But I believe we are still being overshadowed by the Steelers and Bengals. Since Palmer is "ahead of schedule" he might return early and the Ravens chances will be going down. And the Steelers are still the same besides their are some new players but they are still stable. And the Browns, Romeo Crennel knows what he is doing with adding veterans that have leadership and young players together and I'll give Charlie Frye about two more years until he can lead his team. He is still in the "learning" phase of the offense (Bad explaining but try to think about it). But the Ravens sure do look good on paper. But it all boils down to what brought us to be a winning team in the first place. Does Jamal still have the ability to be that 2000 yard rusher again? Has the injury slowed him down? And the defense, are the Ravens losing the leadership they needed? Is Ray Lewis getting older, or is he in need of more surgeries? And we finally have some stability in the quarterback position. And is our offensive line able to buy time for McNair? And can they protect McNair from getting hit in the backfield? How long will McNair last? So yeah, they are sleepers. But I'd wait for at least another year before I can call it playoffs. So this season, I'm shooting for at least 8-8 at most, 9-7 if everything goes as planned and get a wild card spot.
