How does a coach cheat anyway? Does he do something akin to the Bountygate(tapped opponents booths on offensive plays) or something else?
The agent seemed to be mostly talking of behind the scenes payment of coaches and players. It happens yet the ncaa doesn't really care because of how much money they make. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Doubt it.. For what happened with USC, they got off lucky. He's mostly upset with how hard Penn State got slammed for not cheating, but yet schools like Alabama blatantly pay players and over sign and they don't even get a slap on the wrist.
And isn't pay-to-play illegal in the NCAA? Will this make the NCAA inspect the SEC for pay-to-play situations? I mean, for a conference to be slammed(PAC-12) for it but not the SEC screams of bias.
Unless this guy actually comes up with something, I doubt it.. Its all just hearsay now. Its not like it would be bama's first time being on probation.. That program is the dirtiest in college football. Nick Saban loves it there cause he's dirty himself, and the fans are too stupid and arrogant to care about having a dignity.
There does seem to be sort of a favoritism for the SEC because of how much money and marketability they bring to collegiate football. The NCAA seems reluctant to hand out harsh penalties for pay-to-play to SEC schools. When dealing with something as big as Auburn's BCS championship, loopholes allowed them to not punish Cam Newton or Auburn whatsoever. Meanwhile, Ohio State got the book for players selling their own possessions (probably a sign they weren't getting any money under-the-table) and Penn State was punished for something that, while heinous, shouldn't have affected the current Nittany Lions squad. It does make sense that the SEC teams are usually so much better than the rest of the nation though, because the high school football in the southeast is perennially the best in the nation. Why would a kid from the New Orleans area want to play for any team but LSU? Maybe he'll consider national powers like USC, or local school like Tulane, but at the end of the day, he'll probably stay home and play for a school that is not only a powerhouse but has dominated the culture in his area growing up. You don't need money to convince a kid to do that. It probably only comes into play when you're talking about the highest end prospects. You don't really know these sort of things unless you're actually on the inside, but when I was at Tulane, I lived with several football players, who were recruited by all sorts of lower-end SEC schools and higher-end mids, and they wished they got paid. Pay-to-play most definitely exists on the highest level of NCAA basketball though. I could go on for days about John Calipari at Kentucky (basketball). Even Bob Knight agrees on that one -
Gee, ya think? When Newton turned down $150K from one SEC school because he got a better offer from Auburn the NCAA did virtually nothing. The SEC laughed at the NCAA. They get to play by a different set of rules.
What would happen, for curiosities sake, the NCAA slam down on the SEC in the future? Would their be a shaking up in the programs and they could lose momentum(with money not being a motivating factor anymore).
I agree that the NCAA tends to play favorites with the SEC, but at the end of the day, where are most of their players from? Almost all of them are from the southeast. So, if Alabama is paying a player and gets busted, that player goes to Auburn. If Tennessee is gets caught paying a player, he goes to Arkansas or Ole Miss. Either way, the talent in the area will keep those schools going.
That doesn't matter that much. The whole integrity of the NCAA has been stripped years ago. Its a money driven program that could really give a rats ass about anything that doesn't effect there bottom line. They come down "hard" on big schools now and then but nothing they do ever makes sense. I wish there was a better system in place and the fact that these schools cab make millions off there players but can't pay them anything at all is just utter nonsense. Every student athlete on a scholarship should make the same amount no matter what sports/position they play. Doesn't have to be a lot but most of these kids on scholarships don't have the time for a job to make any money due to school/practice.
