<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There's little question Latrell Sprewell's contract extension with the Timberwolves will happen. The question is when. According to Sprewell's agent, it could be soon. "I don't think the month of July is going to end without a contract signed by Latrell," agent Robert Gist said Wednesday. "Kevin (McHale, the team's vice president of basketball operations) and I have already spoken twice since last week. Kevin's been pretty busy with the free agency and the summer league. We'll all sit down some time after things slow down." The Wolves don't have to worry about losing Sprewell, who will make $14.6 million this season. The Wolves and Gist have talked about a multiyear contract extension that makes it likely Sprewell will finish his career in a Wolves uniform. Sprewell, traded from New York last summer, is eligible for a three-year deal. A 12.5 percent raise each year would mean he could make $16.4 million in the first year of a new contract, but a maximum offer is highly unlikely. Also unlikely: Sprewell could receive as little as the midlevel exception each year, which this season is about $5 million. With their focus on free agency, the Wolves likely will intensify their talks with Gist after Minnesota resolves its guard situation. Besides trying to re-sign Troy Hudson, the Wolves want to sign Trenton Hassell and Fred Hoiberg. "This is something we definitely plan to get done," said Wolves owner Glen Taylor, who added that no timetable has been set. "We've got to deal with free agency right now."</div> Registration required
