According to sources on hoopshype.com, Latrell Sprewell will not be playing for the Lakers this season, so, I'm guessing, he's heading to Detroit. What I don't get about this is, if there isn't a team that wants Spree, then will he retire or join LA for $2.5 million?
He won't retire, thats for sure- Players often end up spending all that money they make because they know there will be another pay check. I'm sure Spree's fine just because of his off-court business ventures, but I'm sure his financial plans had him playing this season for more than the "insulting" $7 million, so if he doesn't play it'd be a huge financial hit obviously. Anyways- I'm not sure what will happen, if he'll sign with Minnesota because they can still offer him the most, or if he'll just start out the season unnattached. Teams could then asess what they're strengths and weakenesses are, and perhaps see that they could use Latrells services more than originally thought. Or a last second sign and trade could happen with Latrell and another team. The lakers were thought to be his last option and that's not happening. The Lakers could just be blowing smoke however so that Latrel Agrees to sign for less without the orginally proposed sign and trade.
