<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It took four future Hall of Famers and two overtimes, but the Los Angeles Lakers found a way to outlast Manu Ginobili and a makeshift crew of San Antonio Spurs.

Shaquille O'Neal, who dominated inside with 35 points and 20 rebounds, snapped a tie from the line in double overtime as the Lakers posted a 120-117 victory over the Spurs on Thursday.

Kobe Bryant contributed 37 points, Gary Payton scored 16 and Karl Malone had 15 and 19 rebounds before fouling out for the Lakers, who improved to 5-0.

Ginobili posted career highs of 33 points and 12 rebounds and added seven assists for the Spurs, who played valiantly despite the absences of injured starters Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.

    Amazing performance from S.A

Manu was truely excellent...They just got tired in that 2nd OT and couldn't finish the job.Horry did very well..hit a big three to keep the game close in the 2nd OT period

A very worring sign for the Lakers..when they get take to double overtime with the best two players on this team out...But the Spurs played their guts out...Jason Hart was great as well..But once again Kobe gets away with a damn travel late in the game...just typical..

But Lakers were not impressive at all last night

No Duncan and no Parker..Yet they get forced into double OT....and If it wasn't for some terrible calls late in the game..and that non call travel on Kobe..L.A would of lost the damn game.Jason Hart outplayed Gary Payton for long parts of last nights game....

Got to be happy with the way the Spurs fought..

Very impressed with how the Spurs played, just as good as a win in my book.

Guess that shows what the Lakers need to beat the Spurs. (Sorry it was wide open)

It was a good game by S.A. and I must start off by giving them props.

Can't argue with that point. That was truly his breaking out game. If I were him I would be fuming that I missed the would-be winner with .7 left...

Nah, we are still meshing, and are starting a home stretch. We usually don't shoot that bad either. The Lakers will bounce back, but that game must have been draining.

I knew this was coming. I mean, it's allnet for crying outloud! Well, if you are going to complain and moan about that, I can moan about the call that fouled out Devean George when he didn't even touch Bowen. Or how about Hedo getting an and-1 when he just fell on top of George when nobody touched him. I can remember some blatant missed calls on San Antonio too. Overall, not too bad of a refereed game.

True, but it is only the 5th game of the season. If this were April I would be worried.

Say what?! GP was sharing the ball with 3 other hall-o-famers and was playing on the road. He just needed to get warmed up. Remember- he is like 35 years old. He will have some off nights.

Great game, props to both teams.

Seriously dude you don't need to do quote after quote on my thoughts of the game you know but It is good to see you giving Spurs credit.I'm going going to bother moaning about the decisions...as both teams got good and bad calls..but the bad ones hurt S.A when it matters.I expected a blowout win for L.A last night...So losing by only 3..you have to settle for.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Say what?! GP was sharing the ball with 3 other hall-o-famers and was playing on the road. He just needed to get warmed up. Remember- he is like 35 years old. He will have some off nights. </div>

I was hoping to get a reaction from my statement.Seriously though..Hart impressed me alot

Shame he will likely get cut once the other Point guards are heathly

but you have to admit Hart did not make it easy for Gary..He played hard all night and made a difference.

Was a great game to watch...I still think the title will go to L.A or S.A...So these match-ups are always interesting.

The Spurs played an amazing game, in my eyes, they're getting the respect points over the Lakers in this game. Spurs didn't have even have their all-star player, Duncan, and they still played magnificiently. Ginobli showed last night that he has the potential of a leader last night, the Spurs should be praised for this game, even with it being a loss.

Nobody is doubting the Spurs, so why are some Spurs fans getting so upset?
They played magnificently last night, but the Lakers escaped. Let's move on.

I'm proud of my Spurs. Took the Lakers, arguably one of the best teams out there this season to double overtime without our two stars. Good performance.

Not really on this board. I have read some posts from Spurs fans of various boards and they are demanding respect. Kind of funny actually.. :P

But like I said, it was a good game.

Yea, they did play good enough to get the win. But, they didn't. And, in my book, playing good enough to get a win isn't the same as getting a win. You can play good enough, but, if you don't win, you don't win. Simple as that. It doesn't matter if you play good enough to get it, you have to get it, and they didn't.

Man its clear that SA is a better team then what most ppl tought , and the LA and the "fantastic four" are not as unbeatable as ppl made them out to be...I seriously couldnt believe how many ppl were riding SA off just casue their lineup wasnt as impressive as the other big 4 in the west. And no ppl it was not a well refereed game , it was terribly reffereed...with LA getting the most help.I mean Mercer made a great block that got called for goaltending.W/o that horrible call SA wins it 109-107 in regulation...and that Kobe travel was unbelievable , how could the refs not see that??? [IMG] Kobe didnt just take 3 steps he took like 4.I think its safe to say that at full strength and w/o refs going against them...SA is the best team in the NBA , even better then the supposedly "unstopabble" Lakers and the fantastic four.

Championships are not won on paper , and thats what many ppl tought after they saw LA's lineup which looked so good on paper , but on the court it may not be as good as advertised.

Dude, there have been 6 games played this season. Nobody is writing off the Spurs. I have seen 2 magazines pick the Spurs and several experts picking the Spurs. There are actually alot of Laker haters out there.

The Fantastic 4 has been fantastic, so I don't know what you are talking about. And remember we don't have Fox or Slava healthy either.
    So don't cry.

Im not necesserily reffering to ppl in justbball riding off the SPURS...im talking about in general. In other bball stes ive been ever1 feels LA has the title in the bag , the same with many sites and many experts.ESPN's Analyst Greg Anthony doesnt even feel SA can get home-court advantage (#4 seed)!!!Talk about disrespecting...

And no man , i am not crying...whats done is done. And just tought id let u know that Slava and Fox do not even come close to equaling Duncan , Parker , Garcia , Carter...thats like u guys not having Shaq , GP/Kobe , D-Fish , and Pargo.Im pretty sure that if u guys played us w/o shaq , GP/kobe , d=fish , and pargo and we were pretty much at full strength , and u guys still took us to double OT u would feel pretty good about ur teams chances to beat us when ur at full strenth...and that how i feel too.

And i see u had nothing to say about the bad officiating...the refs pretty much gave LA the game and u know it!

You're a little baby. Ahh, it's too bad Sp*rs fans don't look into stats more..

As of this Friday morning, the San Antonio Spurs (surprise) lead the NBA with 32.3 free-throw attempts/game, despite the fact that their two leading scorers (Duncan and Parker) have missed 2 and 6 games. [IMG]

Rose and Ginobli shot 27 FT in the game. Shaq and Kobe shot 22. and then you have Karl Malone -- THE ALL-TIME LEADER IN FTA -- and he cannot buy a call.

The Lakers had 70 points in the paint vs 34 for the Spurs and STILL shot less free throws. [IMG]

    Ridiculous.

ummmm...and what exactly are those stats supposed to mean? We average many FT's cause we are a very agressive team even w/o duncan or parker.Ginobili is fearless he will take it to the basket against anyone , anytime...just ask Shaq. Same with Rose he will not back down from noone , hes as physical as they come...did u see him get into it with old man Malone? Those stats are meaningless , the only point they make is that SA is a very agressive team on the offensive side.

And duh!...of course LA will have more pts. in the paint , they have Shaq which does nothing but shoot shots from the paint. And how the heck was Malone supposed to get a call? All he was doing was standing outside taking jumper after jumper.

Besides the two calls u got had nothing to do with FT's...just face it w/o the refs bailing u out on that great block by mercer which was called goaltending , LA loses the game 109-107 in regulation.Thats a fact not an opinion...and if u wanna be proud of that , then go ahead.

You truly are more insane than I thought!

You cannot deny stats. Stats are meaningless? Riiiiight.. And how can you say the Spurs got cheated when Rose and Ginobilli shot more free-throws than Kobe and Shaq?! SHAQ and KOBE or Malik and Manu. Who should get more free-throws? LOL.

Shaq gets fouled almost every time and Kobe gets hacked alot too.

Spurs are more aggresive? Bull crap. We have the 2 best offensive players in the game, not to mention GP and Mailman are very aggressive; as aggresive as they come.

Old man Malone? He may be 40, but he could beat down Malik and his mother at the same time, while dunking on you and your mother.

And nextime you try to put up a weak argument against me, please type in halfway-proper English so I can understand what you are trying to mumble out.
