Nice pick-up by the Spurs, I guess this also means Michael Finley won't be joining the team. Having NVE gives them insurance in-case Udrih struggles in the post-season again. NVE is as clutch as they come.

The NVE signing has no barring on Michael Finley. According to Pop he hopes to have an answer from Finley by tomorrow or wednesday at the latest. Seems that NVE would get the vet min.

whoa! interesting signing...they're now loaded in the backcourt with Parker, Barry, Udrih, and Ginobili, and now Van Exel...i wonder how pop will hand out the minutes...van exel doesnt seem like a spurs kind of guy...he has questionable shot selection, is apathetic on defense, and does not have the quickness he used to...I suppose this means the days of devin brown are gone, although i think brown was a much better fit for the spurs than van exel...

Devin Brown is only gone from SA If Finley signs with the Spurs.

NVE is clutch as hell and this signing gives Tony Parker a reason to work even harder. So in crutch time he will be on the court and not NVE. Van Exel gives the Spurs another much needed shooter.

I figured NVE would get the money they planned on giving Finley. If the Spurs are still in the Finley sweepstakes, and land him, I think they have to be considered the front-runners in having the best off-season.

Since they are still after Finley, adding NVE might actually help the cause. They played with each other in Dallas, and played a lot of golf together.

Mark Cuban must be hitting his head against the wall with the possibility of his division rivals adding both his former players for nothing. [IMG]

    Spurs Sign Nick Van Exel

Tony Parker won't have to carry as much of the Spurs' load next season. San Antonio announced Monday that is has signed veteran guard Nick Van Exel.

"We are very happy to have Nick as a part of our team," coach Gregg Popovich said in a statement. "His leadership and skills will be assets at both ends of the floor."

The team did not disclose terms of the contract, but ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that the Spurs were able to sign Van Exel without cutting into the estimated $2.5 million they have offered free-agent swingman Michael Finley for next season.

Finley is expected to decide early this week whether to sign with the Spurs, Suns, Heat or Timberwolves</div>

Wow is all I can say. I have been wondering if we were going to address the problem at PG. Parker is great, but not exactly Mr. Consistency. Udrih was flat out awful in the playoffs last year. I think we look good now even if we don't sign Finley. If Finley says no, we have to turn and give the money to Devin Brown, I really don't want to lose him unless it means Finley is coming to town. I really like this signing as long as he can adapt to "Spurs" basketball. My only worry, is how will Nick react the first time Pop calls a timeout while leading by 20 to berate Nick for an-ill advised shot or relaxing on defense. I like the signing though, as the potential reward outweighs the risk.

Good signing, a great veteran. Should help the Spurs in the playoffs alot. I wanted him to sign with a mediocre team though so I could see him play more, I really like Van Exel but I dont think I'm gonna see too much of him in San Antonio.

yeah they are saying that Finley will probably announce his decision tommorow (today). I am not counting on him joining, I think we are his 3rd choice, but you never know. It would be great to see him at a Spurs press conference soon.

NVE is a really good pick up for the Spurs. Solid backup for Parker or Udrih if he's injured or gets in foul trouble. Now only if you can land Finley....

Very, Very good pickup for the Spurs. The defending champs look even better this year and with Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Finley and now Van Exel world better watch out. Van Exel is a veteran PG that will help them alot.
