Personally, I think the Jets only brought him and Gay in to do early homework on next years Free Agency. Almost legal tampering because they were allowed to talk to the clinets and flood their heads with the numbers they'd be worth on the open market. Plus, the Panic Mode that probably hit the Patriots with Samuel wanting a trade and Gay visiting the Jets must have been priceless as well.
