Who would have thought that Justin Goltz’s inability to get much going on offence would be the second-worst thing to happen to the Bombers on Friday night? Because that’s exactly what happened to this sad-sack team against the Calgary Stampeders. Goltz had the usual struggles of a quarterback making his first career start, but that was to be expected. The unexpected part was a Bomber defence that got Bryant Turner back in the lineup getting absolutely roasted for 490 yards, including a 29-for-33 showing from third-stringer Bo Levi Mitchell, who was also making his first career start. In other words, that wasn’t just the Bomber defence taking a step back last year. That was the Bomber defence becoming what it actually is. Jovon Johnson and Alex Suber, a couple of trusted defensive backs, couldn’t stop Mitchell. The defensive line managed just one sack for the second straight game.
