A groin injury is likely ending Stanton's season early. I saw a story that the Marlins might reach out to Arod. I just don't see it as valid because without the DH in the NL there's no place for him.

Stanton was impressive all season and especially the home run derby. I hope they bring someone up in their system and count on some vet experience to get through the season. Arod needs time in South Beach

Mickey Mantle could really whack home runs for distance, Stanton was on path from the right side. I've always liked him as a ballplayer, hope he gets past whatever ails him. Been hearing those A-rod to Miami but as you say Mess, what in the hell would they do with him.

Maybe they could reach out for gardner for their outfield hole.

What could go wrong with a $325M/13-year contract? Especially one that is heavily back loaded, lol!

^^^seems like the owners will never learn...when it comes time for the next collective bargaining agreement I don't wanna hear any whining from the owners claiming they're going broke.

Damn this early in Giancarlo's career, and he's snake bit with injuries, (tho' last years beaning in the head was no snake bite). Stanton has had 2 healthy season's out of 7. Unless one considers playing in 123 games, as healthy.....

Obvious big blow to Marlins' playoff chances.
Cards and Mets won't be losing sleep over it.
I remember seeing Stanton during a post game on field interview couple years go and being very impressed with him. Quite well spoken, intelligent, humble and a fine young gentleman. Of course his production, numbers and age were the primary factors but I wouldn't be surprised if his personality and presence had a little something to do with the contract they gave him....and it is gigantic, yikes.

He can hit the ball over the moon and we all like to see the big fly but they don't hand out extra points for distance.
Aaron Judge can also hit it a mile but I would be very happy if he hits 35 HRs just a few rows behind the fences. Lol

I know I know, it's going to sound silly and unpopular but it wouldn't surprise me very much if the Marlins signed Arod especially if they believe he can field ground balls and take throws playing 1b once or twice a week. (?)

With Stanton hurt, this team is looking to add some kind of offensive punch more so than a defensive whiz at 1b and they may feel he could provide a couple of hits and HRs over the last 6-7 weeks possibly playing a handful of games at 1b and pinch hitting.
His HR/AB ratio for the season stands at 1 per 25,
    1 K per 3.3 AB

    Tex- 1 HR per 29.4 Ab and 1 K per 3.4 AB..also .200 BA
Thank goodness Yanks are playing Austin at 1B.

By the way, speaking of Stanton's LARGE contract and production.
He was batting .244 with .826 OPS averaging 1 HR per 15.2 AB, 1K per 3 AB before he got hurt.

Career- 122 G per season as a regular,
(exclude 1st season when he began in June)
    .267/.898, averaging 1 HR per 14.3 AB and 1K per 3.4 AB.

Good kid, excellent young slugger.....the contract?
    Yeesh.

...I thought the contract was silly from the beginning...never thought he was worth that kind of insane money...I mean yeah, his offensive numbers are good but not off the charts, especially for a corner OFer...he strikes out a ton, not a big base stealer, and not great defensively.

exactly..... I've got a gut feeling Stanton isn't going to see the jump from 14 Mil in 017; to 25 Mil in 018, even tho' he can opt out after 2020. I just don't see Miami going on ahead with spending more money, to build a team around Stanton, in years to come....

just can't see it, tho' Miami is looking so so thus far; Giancarlo could be washed up at any point in years ahead.

I'm not so sure I'd build a team around One guy; let alone Stanton....

I do love to see his whopping crushed HR's
