The Salt Lake City Stars earned their second win in as many nights after an impressive 124-104 victory over the Lakeland Magic on Wednesday night at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The Stars improved to 2-0 at the 2021 AT&T NBA G League Winter Showcase making them one of six teams to leave Las Vegas with a perfect record. The Stars came into this year's Winter Showcase as the reigning champions having won the previous Showcase during the 2019-20 season.

Carsen Edwards got the Stars going early with an explosive 17-point first quarter, shooting 6-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 from downtown. Edwards finished the game with a team-high 24 points along with three rebounds and five assists.

J.J. Avila fired up the Stars bench on multiple occasions with high-energy defensive stops and timely offensive rebounds while adding 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.

Derrick Alston Jr. added 23 points and Brendan Bailey chipped in 15 points. Elijah Hughes and Gerard Tarin scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for a Stars team that has now seen six or more players score in double figures in seven of their last eight outings.

The Magic were led by former BYU standout and Utah native, T.J. Haws who scored 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Jeremiah Tilmon added 20 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line in a flawless shooting performance for the Magic, but it was not enough to cool off the white-hot Stars.

The Stars will enjoy a short break before beginning the official 36-game NBA G League regular season at home against the Agua Caliente Clippers on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. from Bruin Arena at Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville.

The teams will meet again on Dec. 29 for round two from Bruin Arena.

Tickets for both Stars vs. Clippers games on Dec. 27 and Dec. 29 can be purchased at www.slcstars.com or by phone (via call or text) at (801) 325-STAR (7827).
