Dudley is solid. I think Barton will be more of a scorer than a blue-collar/intangibles guy like Duds.
Ha - I thought Marquis Daniels when I was looking at his stats. I know he had poor combine results, but I don't know what to read from that. He could certainly do what he wanted on the court in college. Sometimes players just have bad results - Monta Ellis famously measured as unathletic at the combines. Josh Childress is another good one. Although he now looks like a bum, he looked good enough playing for Atlanta that I remember plenty on this board pining for him.
Almost scary (and kinda cool) that when you're not really reading it, the name "Will Barton" looks a lot like "Bill Walton".
Very interesting, but very flawed article. It overemphasizes combine numbers which happen on a single day. When comparing stats Brandon Roy is very, very close to both Jared Dudley and Ryan Gomes. Of course Roy turned out to be a very different player than those other two. I'm not sure how you factor in the relevant data and factor out the irrelevant data (probably more detailed data is needed), but neither do the authors. Of course, their hard work is appreciated, and may bear fruit in the future. I have high hopes for Barton and this article did not diminish them. Most of the arguments against Barton relate to body type. Parallel body type arguments were made about Charles Barkley. Barton's a guy in particular that we'll have to wait 2 to 3 years on to properly evaluate.
He also matched up to Rudy Fernandez a bit too. I think Rudy is probably a local comparison we could expect.
As Ed O. has pointed out in the past, rebounding is one of the skills that translates from college to the pros. Barton was an excellent rebounder in college.
