Tea party protest in the OC at an Islamic fundraiser last month sorry I couldn't find a youtube upload without crazy nerka derka script across the bottom.
Ok so I'll start. I'm going to assume that these Tea Partier members were not representative of the majority of Tea Party members across the US and most of them wouldn't chant "go back home" to people that were most likely born here.
huge tensions with the muslim student groups at UC Irvine. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/mar/07/local/la-me-irvine-20110307
What is the relevance of this? Are you suggesting that this is retribution for the demonstration at the Muslim fundraiser?
No. just a lot of tensions. Pretty big news in the area and pissed people off Irvine happened a few months ago X
Dude, get it right. Stop putting word in my mouth and check what I actually said: "national news outlets"
the thing about LA and OC is everything is pretty segregated. there are whole neighborhoods or even cities with primarily one ethnic group. lots of racial (and religious) tensions up in this biatch.
I noticed it states that the protesters "included such groups as", and then they go on to mention 6 groups by name and then say "among others". Yet this thread is solely attributed to the Tea Party. That seems disingenuous to me. Now, to be sure, there may have been people there who also support the Tea Party, but we also have people like Harry Reid making numerous racists remarks... This tells me that there are people in all political parties who hold to racist views, and it's not a Tea Party thing, but an individual thing we should be addressing here. We should therefore be concerned about all peoples of all political parties and their racist remarks and ways.
What was the subject of the fundraiser that had these people so exercised? It's a damn shame to see anti-legal immigrant sentiments being voiced and pretty bigoted. Until I make a final judgment on this confrontation, I'd like a bit more background, however. I also agree with BP's point about how the Tea Party gets smeared with all the blame when it seems several groups were there.
My bad on making the subject about the tea party, it's true that the video does relay the info that it was a myriad of groups, along with elected officials, that made up the protest. The event was an Islamic fundraiser for women's shelters and to combat homelessness put on by ICNA.
Thanks for the further information. Here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Circle_of_North_America
