Why does everybody give Marbury a bad wrap?He has been one of the most consistant players in the NBA. Along with Oscar Robertson, He is the only player in NBA history with career averages of 20 points and 8 assists.Theres only 2 players in HISTORY with those numbers and Marbury is one of them. The guy donated 500,000 dollars to Hurricane Katrina. Did anybody see him ball his eys out on national tv over the Hurricane? If you missed it your lucky because it made me want to cry right along with him. Also I heard on PTI that Marbury called Larry Brown to wish him a quick and speedy recovery on his current situation. He put the fued aside and put his hand out to Brown which I find respectful. Some information on his breakdown about Hurricane Katrina:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>We feel like you?re expecting us to somehow poke fun at Knicks guard Stephon Marbury?s emotional breakdown when discussing Hurricane Katrina, but we really can?t. The guy was legitimately devistated.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The New York Knicks playmaker broke down several times here Tuesday at an NBA Players Association announcement that it would donate 2.5 million dollars to relief efforts, matching its donation after the 2001 terrorist attacks here."It's so touching because I think about them kids," Marbury said. "I see them kids crying... and I just think about my kids, my son. Then I see babies floating in the river... It's just amazing these people are still going."Marbury's pledge, a minimum of 500,000 dollars over the upcoming NBA season and up to one million dollars, comes in a season when he will be paid 16 million dollars."I can't buy them what they need," said a weeping Marbury, who has no personal ties to people directly affected by the devastation in the New Orleans area."When you saw him break down, that was heartfelt," union executive director Billy Hunter said as Marbury sat, head in hands. "I think this is indicative of where our guys really are."</div>
balla, he proclaimed himself the best point guard in the NBA which couldn't be further from the truth, everywhere he's gone he's lost, he proclaimed himself "starbury", he's sooooo overpaid, he's a massive headcase, yeah he averaged 20 points 8 assists for many seasons but what has his teams done with those numbers? The guy can definately play ball but as a team player this guy is about as bad as they come.

They difference is they dont say it to the public. How can you be the best if you dont think your the best?As far as Marbury only gaining individual success I agree with you. However he has had his share of playoff games under his belt.
the reason he get's a bad wrap is because of his attitude. he comes across as a selfish player. i do think he does not get treated fairly though. i mean what bothers me the most about him is that he puts up great numbers but despite that he still can't manage to win where he goes. his career averages are unmatched by no one except oscar like you said balla. i don't understand why this guy can't win. i felt upset too when he let his emotions out after katrina. i want things to work out here with brown and the knicks. since he's from ny. i would've thought that this was the place to ressurect his career.

But you have to remember he could have probably been the best if he stayed in Minnesota. But he left because KG got more money than him. Honestly, that pretty much sums up Marbury in my opinion. This guy had an oppurtunity to probably win some titles with KG in Minnesota and threw it all down the drain just for the sake of money.

I cant stand the guy, he is cocky and arrogant and never wins no matter where he goes. He said he thinks he's the best PG in the league and since then the Knicks are a combined 34-94 or something along those lines..I think hes a selfish, shootfirst PG and this team will never be succesful with him playing for them..

Ahh.. I just dont really like him as a player. He can't shoot for anything, yet he still throws up bricks instead of passing more. I feel thaqt he has dropped off alot this year and hasnt stepped up at all to help out the Knicks. He's averaging a pretty dismal 16 and 6. Those are pretty decent numbers but they arent that great considering the amount of looks Stephon has with the ball. I feel that he post pads abit. He drives inside, flips it off to his teammate. The kinds of things AI does. He is still not a good fundamental pg and his averages of 6 apg does not mean that any shape or form he isnt a ball hog which he is. AI gets 7 apg and he is a ball hog, KB8 gets 4 and a half a game. He is the biggest ball hog in the business. He seems a little cocky. It seems like he thinks he is still a top 5 pg. He used to think that he was the greatest ever. But the thing is, he doesnt run an offense particulary well. he just takes low percentage shots and doesnt pass to his teammates that much. Thats why I think the Knicks and any other team for that matter would be better off without the guy.
okay Stephon Marbury may be a good person cuz he chooses to help when others do not, but we are talking about on the basketball court. the fact is he isnt a very good leader and he thinks of himself as better than everyone else. He is NOT the best point guard in league, not even close, i can name many more that are better than him. He also needs to shut his mouth on certain matters instead of going to the media with all the little problems that go one with him and larry brown.

Its just that this year he seemed to put forth no effort to play hard. And a lot of people lost respect for him. Another thing is he is a score first point guard. In some cases that is ok. Bu the Knicks have way to many score first players.
You want to know why people give Marbury a hard time? Just look at his career...Yes, he does average nice career numbers, but what has he ever done in his career? Nothing. I don't think he has ever been out of the first round of the playoffs. Every team he is on has a decent season, and then goes downhill, and they only get better when they trade him.Last season, he declared himself the best point guard in the NBA, and what happened? That is when the Knicks started losing like crazy. This year, he repeatedly disrespects a Hall of Fame coach who has a history of turning franchises around, and being tough on his point guards. Marbury couldn't handle it.
