We've talked about this in many threads before, but I don't know if we've ever actually had a thread specifically about this topic. Many in here are fans of the game of basketball. @HCP makes it clear that he watches NBA games for all teams; many of us do the same. @Rastapopoulos obviously watches basketball from anywhere on earth. Others in here watch the Blazers only, and hate the rest of the league.

So, which are you? If the Blazers ceased to exist, or left us like the Sonics did Seattle, would you continue to be an NBA fan, or would you just be done with it altogether?

There should be a third option. Yes Im a fan of both. Yes I would still watch the NBA, but a hell of a lot less. Key games and playoffs only probably.

This would be my pick as well.

That still fits into the first option. It's the same way we consume other sports to which we have no specific allegiance. Even hardcore football fans aren't sitting down to watch Lions-Jaguars on a Sunday afternoon unless they have a vested interest.

I think this is realistic for many of us. I like basketball generally. A bit more than football and much more than baseball. I never watch baseball. I really don't sit down and watch football, but will sometimes pick up on part of a game in the background and do watch the super bowl some years.

If the Blazers moved, then my main incentive for watching basketball (getting really involved with the team) would be gone. I would probably be most likely to switch to college basketball then.

UNLESS, they moved to Vancouver, WA. That would be sweet!!!

MMM see, I disagree. I watch games now that I normally wouldn't watch because of the potential impact to the Blazers. For example, the team above us and below us in the wins column, I like to watch their games to root for or against, but if we have no Blazers, I wouldn't watch those games anymore. I hear what your saying, but not quite the same scenario I am pointing out. Thus I think a third option is needed. :)

I'd boycott the league if the blazers left town.

I might watch the occasional playoff game if the teams with "local" kids or ex Blazers (that I'm fond of) are playing. But otherwise, hell no. I love baseball and am a hard core SF Giants fan, but since they aren't in the playoffs, I quit paying attention. I'm honestly not even 100% sure who is even playing right now. Though I might catch a WS game or two when the dust settles. So that's pretty much how I would be if the Blazers left town.....or if they stay in town and fail to make the playoffs themselves. Once my teams are done, I'm done.....

Whoa, check the MLB news. Epic drama last night in Toronto. Blown ump call. trash tossed on the field, btu then a 3 run homer changed EVERYTHING. Classic game that will be talked about for decades.

Umps didn't blow the call. They got it right, and the idiotic fans lost their minds.

Not true. Home plate umpire called time ( dead ball ) when it was actually live. In the end Toronto won so it panned out, but there was serious controversy regarding the home plate ump calling time prior to the 3rd base runner crossing home plate. did the run count? Didn't it?
Umps blew that one big time, though a VERY unique play that maybe be the first documented case of this specific incident.

They got it wrong at first, but they corrected it upon review. That's how review works. If they had upheld the initial ruling, then I would agree that they had "blown it". But by awarding Texas the run--despite the ump attempting to wave the runner off even as he was still running toward home-- they got it right.

Gotchas. Honestly I didn't watch the game either but heard ALL about it , but I missed that part I guess. Blown initially but then got the call right, but then isn't the original time call still a blown play? When time is called the D stops. Maybe he could have been thrown out at home if time wasn't called and what not?
    Still pretty ugly initially.

No chance for a throw out. The ball rolled up the third base line and was as far from a fielder as the runner was from home. It was the equivalent of a fumble being initially ruled down by contact, but then reviewed and granted to the defense based on clear recovery. The initially missed call doesn't change the obvious eventuality.

And in my mind, a call isn't "blown" or "right" until it's finalized. Any time an official is willing to overturn their own error, I give them credit for that.

The ump made the right call, and also went to new york for it. Dale Scott is one of the best umps in the game. He did everything right. That play happens once a decade, and they did it right.

The fans, however... that was just sad.

After moving from Portland to Seattle, I find that I watch the NBA a lot less. There is less buzz. I still watch the Blazers when I can, but I am not as crazy about them after moving to a city with less buzz about the NBA. Seattle hates the NBA pretty much since they lost the Sonics. I think that the same would happen in Portland.
