Wow I never saw this one coming...... He was regarded as the worst coach with the worst team in the NBA and his players openly challenged him to the media giving him no respect. Paint me surprised....
Terry Stotts isn't that bad of a coach...he worked with the Sonics as an assistant and did an exceptional job. I really hate the way NBA teams think firing their coach will turn the team around. It is blatantly obvious that the Hawks lack talent and until they get some it doesn't matter if Phil Jackson is the coach, they won't win.
^What he did in the past has nothing to do with this. It was a known fact that some players were not responding to Stotts at all and as a coach this would be a major issue. Sure you can say he had a bad team but with Rahim, Ratliff, Terry and Stephen Jackson I saw them winning more than this in the preseason. The Hawks management wanted Stotts to stay on one more year anyways because they knew the team was gonna be sold eventually. They just didn't want to sign anyone to a multi year deal in with new owners coming in. This move was inevitable so it shouldn't be surprising.
Hardly a surprising move, but the Hawks are mistaken if they think this will turn their team around. They are going to have to rely on the draft, and make the right front office moves aswell. Firing a coach almost always wont turn a team around, and the Hawks should be struggling again next year. Last season they beat some of the top teams, which proves they can play when they want to. They just need to work on being more consistent. With a new coach, and some new players, things could turn around but at the way the Hawks are going it might be a while away.
