Re: Street's 2007 NFL Mock Draft

2007 NFL Mock DraftStreet1. Oakland Raiders ? QB JaMarcus Russell, LSU ? The Raiders have had a sad excuse for a quarterback year after year ever since Rich Gannon left the team. They thought Aaron Brooks was the answer, but it is evident that he is not. Once he left the Saints, they became an elite team in their respected conference and the Raiders should be hoping that the same will happen with them. Russell is big, has some speed and has a cannon for an arm. He is a perfect fit with Randy Moss.2. Detroit Lions ? QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame ? Quinn is number one on top of many people?s draft boards, for example, the Lions? draft board. Quinn has been coached by an offensive coordinator from a Super Bowl Champion Team and has had great success in the NCAA. His pocket presence is amazing and he has great composure. He is also very confident and would love to throw the ball to a guy like Roy Williams, who wouldn?t? This might be the Lions? quarterback messiah, but who knows with Detroit. Maybe, they will go with another wide receiver.3. Cleveland Browns ? DT Alan Branch, Michigan ? The Cleveland Browns have a lot of needs, but selecting Alan Branch from Michigan, who is the top rated defensive tackles in the draft, might be the safest pick for a team who needs a run stopping threat in the middle of the line.4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - WR Calvin Johnson ? The Buccaneers are in desperate need of a receiver. Joey Galloway is not getting any older and whoever their quarterback is starting next season is going to need someone to throw the ball to in key situations. Johnson has the size and the speed to make it the NFL.5. Arizona Cardinals ? OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin ? The Cardinals were notorious this season for their horrendous and horrific offensive line problems. With a young quarterback and a pro bowl potential running back, they need guys to protect them from getting hit in the backfield and Joe Thomas is the perfect start.6. Washington Redskins ? DT Amobi Okoye, Louisville ? The Redskins have their offense set. A quarterback, running back, wide receivers, tight ends, fullbacks, etc. But, their run stopping could definitely be improved upon and Amobi Okoye really helped his stock in the senior bowl. He has great speed and great smarts. He started school at 2 years and skipped sixth grade, just for the record.7. Minnesota Vikings ? DE Gaines Adams, Clemson ? The Vikings could use help at other positions, yes. And even though they had one of the best rushing defenses in the league, they had one of the worse passing defenses in the leagues. One can assume that that is because of their horrendous pass rush and if one did assume that, then they assumed correctly. Kenechi Udeze, who is the defensive end that the Vikings are relying on as of now, did not come up with one single sack the whole 2006 NFL Season. Gaines Adams is the best pass rushing defense end in the draft, so who better for the Vikings defensive line, then Adams himself.8. Houston Texans ? RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma ? Many say that looking back at last years? draft, it might have been a blessing in disguise that the Texans did not select Reggie Bush because now they can select Adrian Peterson. If it was not for his collar bone injury, Peterson would have arguably won the Heisman Award. With Dominick Davis going down early last season, that might be the end of him in Houston and even though the Texans can improve in other places, they cannot pass up on another explosive running back two years running. 9. Miami Dolphins ? DT Quinn Pitcock, Ohio State ? Pitcock is an extremely strong defensive tackle and is a great tackler. He is a sure thing against the run, but his pass rush can be improved upon. The Dolphins have to go with a defensive tackle in this spot because their top three interior lineman will be gone come next season. 10. Atlanta Falcons ? CB Leon Hall, Michigan ? This was one of the easier picks in the top ten because of the Falcons? desperate need for secondary help. Hall is a smart player with a lot of intangibles. He has good size and has also seen some safety action, which might be a possibility for him in Atlanta.11. San Francisco 49ers ? WR Tedd Ginn Jr, Ohio State ? The 49ers are a young team and Alex Smith looked better and better each game last season. He has learned how to play in the NFL and now that he has a running game, he can try to establish a passing game and throw that deep ball once in awhile. But, the 49ers do not have that explosive receiver to run down the field and catch the ball for a huge play. Ginn might be that guy for them. Yes, he is a bit small, but he is taller than both Santana Moss and Steve Smith, so even though people might have some doubts about Ginn?s size and built, there are other people doubting that that will be a problem. It will also give the 49ers a punt and kick returner as well that will always be a threat to make a big return.12. Buffalo Bills - CB Marcus McCauley, Fresno State ? The Bills have already made it clear that they will not put the franchise tag on their current starting cornerback, Nate Clements, and there is doubt that he will sign for anything else, so this leaves the Bills with a huge whole to fill. McCauley can play in Man or Zone Defenses and can also play against the run, being a great tackler. He also has great speed on top of everything else, running a 4.35 in the 40 yard dash.13. St. Louis Rams ? OLB Lawrence Timmons, Florida State ? The Rams defense was once again not very good. It is no exaggeration to be honest. They were one of the worst teams in the league against the run and Timmons recorded 18 tackles for a loss and 5 sacks.14. Carolina Panthers ? S Laron Landry, Louisiana State ? Shaun Williams is only in the Panthers? secondary for a short while and they will need a playmaker back their soon enough and Landry is that guy. He may be a little bit of a reach at this point in the draft, but he is the top rated Safety in the draft. Landry had 315 tackles and 12 interceptions in his NCAA Career at LSU.15. Pittsburgh Steelers ? RB Marshawn Lynch, California ? After a recent acquisition of beating his girlfriend, it is reported that Lynch has been crossed off of many teams? draft boards, but Lynch would be a great complimentary back to a running back in Willie Parker, who was amazing when he had ?The Bus? in the game when he wasn?t. Parker did have a great year last season, but the Steelers have pretty good depth and a running back in Lynch might be what they need. It is too bad that the Bengals do not pick until three picks after the Steelers, because he would have fit in perfectly with the motto of that team.16. Green Bay Packers ? WR Dwayne Jarrett, USC ? If Brett Favre comes back to the NFL for at least one more season, Ahman Green stays healthy, and they get some defensive help in the later rounds and free agency, the Packers, who finished up the season with a .500 record of 8 ? 8, might be a serious threat for a playoff position if the NFC is even remotely close to as horrid it was this past season. Jarrett is in the top three of all of the wide receivers in this draft, which he does deserve to be honest. He had an amazing career at USC and showed that he his a number 1 wide receiver in an NFL type of offense.17. Jacksonville Jaguars ? QB Troy Smith, Ohio State ? The Jaguars? biggest need by far is a quarterback and even though Troy Smith hurt his stocks a ton in the BCS National Championship Game, he earned some of it back because of his Senior Bowl performance. If he has some good workouts, the Jaguars might have no choice, but to take a chance on Smith because if they wait for their second round pick to pick him, he might be gone and he is clearly the best quarterback left.18. Cincinnati Bengals ? DE Jamal Anderson, Arkansas ? If Jamal Anderson does indeed fall this far down in the draft, the Bengals would be sinned if they did not select him. Anderson had 19.5 tackles for a loss and 13 sacks this past season, but he did not have anywhere close to as good of a season his previous years at Arkansas, so there might be some concern, but he is clearly the right pick here even though the Bengals biggest need might be in their secondary.19. Tennessee Titans ? WR Sidney Rice, South Carolina ? In two years at South Carolina, Rice compiled over 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. Vince Young is a great quarterback already and Rice might be that receiver that Young needs to make that next step, a big guy to catch passes in the middle of the field and go long as well. Rice has pretty good speed, running a 4.45 in the 40 yard dash.20. New York Giants ? S Reggie Nelson, Florida ? It is no surprise to anyone that the Giants will be focusing on a defensive back in the early rounds of this draft. Nelson was a key player in Florida?s success in defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in this past BCS National Championship Game, as well as during the whole season. Nelson is also projected to be able to play the cornerback position in the NFL with his size and good speed.21. Denver Broncos ? TE Zach Miller, Arizona State ? The Broncos have a lot of depth at a lot of positions, but the tight end position and Zach Miller is the top rated tight end heading into the draft. In three seasons, Miller caught the ball for over 1,500 yards and 10.5 yards per catch. Miller is also decent blocking for the run, which is what the Broncos are best at doing.22. Dallas Cowboys ? OG Justin Blalock ? Texas ? One of the reasons why Tony Romo replaced Drew Bledsoe as the starting quarterback for the Cowboys in the middle of last season, it was because Romo has an easier time scrambling and getting out of the pocket. With Justin Blalock, Romo will definitely have some more time to throw the ball and find the open receiver.23. Kansas City Chiefs ? WR Dwayne Bowe ? Louisiana State ? Bowe is a great athlete as well as a great leaper. He is also a great wide receiver and is well deserving of a first round selection, especially to a team who is notorious for not having top of the line wide receivers. Bowe has the potential to turn into that guy and might help the passing game establish more to give Larry Johnson some room to run the ball.24. New England Patriots (Via Seattle) ? CB Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh ? There is a very good chance that Asante Samuel will not be with the Patriots next season. He is asking for a lot of money and the Patriots are known for not paying their players what they want in order to keep them. This will leave a whole in the Patriots? secondary and Revis might be the perfect guy for that defense. He is fast, athletics, aggressive, and a very physical player who has great speed. He is also a return threat in the kicking game.25. New York Jets ? DE Jarvis Moss, Florida ? Even though the Jets put pressure on the quarterback a lot in the second half of the season, it came mainly off of different blitz packages that the offense was not able to pick up. The defensive line can use a potential pass rush threat to put some pressure on the quarterback when they are not blitzing. Moss has great size and speed for a defensive end. He is 6 feet and 6 inches and runs a good 40 yard dash for a defensive end, clocking in at 4.65. In the two years that he actually played at Florida, he had a total of 15 sacks, consistently sacking the quarterback 7.5 times each season. In those two years, he also had 20 tackles for a loss and in 26 games, he had 87 total tackles. An aggressive defensive end with good size like Moss would fit perfectly in the Jets? 3-4 defensive scheme.26. Philadelphia Eagles ? S Michael Griffin, Texas ? Michael Lewis, who was previously the starting safety for the Eagles is not likely to return to the team next season due to free agency, so that leaves a whole in the Eagles secondary. Griffin is a physical and aggressive football player who covers a lot of ground and is a big hitter.27. New Orleans Saints ? OLB Paul Posluzny, Penn State ? Posluzny had a great senior season, but there is still the worry of his size and the fact that at times, he has trouble shedding blockers. The Saints, even though they went to the NFC Championship Game this year have some major concerns on defense and Posluzny has the potential to fill some of those gaps.28. New England Patriots ? WR Craig Davis, Louisiana State ? The Patriots essentially have an extra first round pick from their trade with Seattle that sent Seattle WR Deion Branch. Davis is a wide receiver that adjusts very well to poorly thrown balls and does not have a lot of areas to work on. He could improve in his route running, which is a big thing to improve upon, but he has great work ethic.29. Baltimore Ravens ? RB Kenny Irons, Auburn ? The Ravens do not have many wholes on their team, but Jamal Lewis might become one of those cap casualties soon enough and Kenny Irons showed great potential this past season. Even though Irons is not even 6 feet tall, he plays like he is bigger and has excellent patience. He can explode through wholes and sees the field very well.30. San Diego Chargers ? DE Adam Carriker, Nebraska ? The Chargers are another one of those teams that do not have that many wholes to fill. Carriker is another one of those 6 foot and 6 six inches defensive ends that has tons of strength and can stop the run with power.31. Indianapolis Colts ? ILB Patrick Willis, Ole Miss ? Everyone knows by now that the Colts? run defense was the worst in the league. Granted, they are playing very well now, but it is even admitted by them that it is the do or die atmosphere that is making them play better. Also, Cato June, their top linebacker, is going to be an unrestricted free agent, come at the end of his season and the chances that he comes back are not as good as the Colts would like them to be. Willis is a big hitter and reliable tackler, which is what the Colts did not have this season.32. Chicago Bears ? OT Levi Brown, Penn State ? The Bears spent just about all of their draft picks in last years? draft on the defensive side of the ball and this year, it seems that it will be the opposite. Even though, the Bears do not have a big concern on the offensive line, they do have guys like Reuben Brown and Fred Miller who are getting older. Brown is 6 foot and inches and all 328 lbs of him is a good athlete and has ton of experience in the Big Ten.

Little grammar mistakes: you put wholes instead of holes. Wholes are like a whole butt, while holes are like buttholes. lolIMO, Craig Davis is not worthy of a first round pick. There are a couple of receivers better than him.

I could see him as a double digit sack kind of guy in either.I don't know if Mangini would draft him cause he failed a pot test in College, but it's not like he beat his girlfriend. What college student doesn't smoke some pot. :whistling:With that said, I'd take Carriker or Levi Brown over him 10 out of 10 times.

[quote name='Street' post='82773' date='Jan 29 2007, 05:43 PM']6. Washington Redskins ? DT Amobi Okoye, Louisville ? The Redskins have their offense set. The guy's probably somewhere between 9-15 right now.Far too high also, He's going at the very best in the second half of the First Round and theres a good chance he could fall out of Round 1 as his stock is on the freefall.
They also need a lot of help on defense and Jamal Anderson is BPA. They'd likely take him and wait for Round 2 to pick a Reciever in this WR Deep Draft.Probably too high on him, he's really done nothing to cement himself as the #2 cornerback, never mind a Top 15 pick.
He won't fall this far.Lynch is more of a complete back, someone like Michael Bush would be a good complimentary back, not Lynch.
He's not even a First Rounder. Not to mention the last thing the Jags need is another mediocre QB. They already have 2 mediocre ones in Leftwich and Garrard.Won't last this long.
Too Early, probably a Second Rounder. Dwayne Bowe has passed him on almost all draft boards.Won't last this long. Top 15 pick.
I doubt it. They like Sheffler and have other pressing needs. Replenishing both the Lines makes alot more sense for them, plus a D-Back to replace Williams (I don't care what their fans say, Foxworth is best suited for the Nickle).
Won't last this long. He's a top 15 pick, you could probably swap him and McCauley and get no complaints though from anybody.
I like this pick, but I like Adam Carriker and Levi Brown even more. Gotta get one of those 2 if they fall to us. OLB isn't a pressing need for us with Hobson and Thomas. We could use an upgrade, but not over replenishing the lines more.
Not a First Rounder, if you were going to pick a WR here, Robert Meachem would be the one.
None of them will last this long. I see all of them going between 10 and 20 personally.

A lot of those guys don't belong as 1st round talent, but you never know on draft day. I really don't see how you have Ginn above Jarrett though, that just confuses me.

And as Venom said, take the best WR available in the 2nd or 3rd.
