    Notes on the event:

    -- Frank Shamrock and Nick Diaz will battle in a catchweight at 179lbs. Shamrock has competed at middleweight and light heavyweight in the past while Diaz has been a welterweight. The fight demonstrates some creativity on the part of Strikeforce in developing a main event featuring two of their stars, but also seems to indicate a lack of options for the promotion when it comes to a main event draw.

    -- Strikeforce hoped to get Christiane "Cyborg" Santos and Gina Carano fighting each other on this card but contract negotiations with Carano have stalled. Though both fighters are apparently interested in the showdown, don't expect it to happen until late summer, if at all. Carano was underpaid with EliteXC and will hopefully sign a more suitable contract with Strikeforce in time.

    -- Joe Riggs was expected to face former EliteXC Welterweight Champion Jake Shields at this event but Shields will fight at Strikeforce's next event instead. Following the cancellation Shields expressed relief that he wasn't being forced to fight Riggs, who he thinks is beneath him as a professional. Riggs, incensed at Shields' comments, flamed the hell out of Shields on the internet and in interviews to the point where he was offered a replacement opponent on the card in "The New York Badass" Phil Baroni to work out his frustrations. Baroni has looked good at welterweight and should be the heavy favourite in this bout, which will take place at the next Strikeforce event.

    -- Brett "The Grim" Rogers faces Ron Humphries on the main card. The undefeated Rogers unsuccessfully campaigned for a fight against Kimbo Slice (aka Kevin Fergusson) during his time with EliteXC, a wish that was crushed with Slice was knocked out by Seth Petruzelli in EliteXC's last show. Rogers is a heavy-handed striker who could eventually face Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, should Overeem make his way back to the promotion following a stint in Japan. Assuming he can get through Humphries, that is.

    -- Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh "The Punk" Thompson was slated to rematch Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez but has suffered a broken leg in training. Thompson could be out for several months as a result. Melendez was not offered another opponent but is expected to fight at Strikeforce's next event this summer.

    Strikeforce is hoping to get Mitsuhiro Isihida to replace Josh Thompson in his fight against Gilbert Melendez.

    Ishida is the only other fighter to have defeated Melendez.

    Michaels and Santos were both fined 20% of their purse for missing weight.

    Santos missed weight by a mile. With so few women in MMA its tough to see them consistently missing weight, causing even larger discrepancies between combatants. Santos already has a huge size advantage over Akano but to get on the scale and weigh almost ten pounds more than her opponent is disrespectful.
