He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this year, so he isn't going to be the subject of trade talks before the deadline, but if we deal Cliff for a trade exception, I think we could and should set our sights on this guy.

Thanks to the coming of the new CBA a lot of teams have signed contracts that put them over the cap for the next few years. Since he is worth more than the MLE, very few teams will be able to sign him. With the trade exception up our sleeve, we could deal someone like Najera and a second round draft pick for a signed and traded Swift.

It is a horrible deal for Memphis, but it would help keep them under the luxury tax, and it could be one of the more enticing offers on their plate. They are well stocked at every position except for F/C and chances are that they will not be able to trade Swift at a good rate for another big man. They could sign Swift to a long term deal with their Bird rights, but then they would have some serious salary problems for the next few years.

Now, as far as the Warriors are concerned, this move puts Biedrins another spot down on the depth chart, possibly creating a Darko-like situation. But on the upside, Swift offers the same skill set that Biedrins is reported to have, and he is already developed. On the other hand, Biedrins is a few inches taller than Swift.

In my mind, this team would benefit greatly from a player like Swift. However, that is my opinion for this season - next season could be an entirely different ballgame.

i definatly want swift on the warriors, i have wanted that since the griz drafted him. He is going to leave memphis and memphis knows that so they will definatly try to get something for him. If a trade exception for him would work then NJ would definatly do that over robinson, so we need to offer something better, like cliffy and a pick, or exception and a pick, ect.

I think that in a trade for Swift, we would immeadiatly send Davis packing.

The problem with trading Cliff or Davis for Swift is that he becomes a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. I think we gain his Bird rights in a trade, so hypothetically we could sign him to a monster deal, but if he wanted to go elsewhere we would not be able to stop him. For this reason I think the only time to make a move for him is in the offseason.

jerry west likes dunleavy, warriors picked him right before memphis had a chance and west went w/ his second option in gooden. i am sure he wants dundun. Posey has been asking/demanding for a trade, so a package of posey/swift for dundun/crob/future #1 would be great.

I say we get rid of Dale Davis, Fisher, and Dunleavy and do something like this:

Golden State trades: C Dale Davis (2.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.5 apg in 14.7 minutes)
PG Derek Fisher (10.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 26.1 minutes)
SF Mike Dunleavy (11.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg in 31.6 minutes)
Golden State receives: Michael Stewart (No games yet played in 2004/05)
    C Raef LaFrentz (10.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.2 minutes)
SG Ricky Davis (14.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 32.2 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +0.9 ppg, -0.8 rpg, and -2.9 apg.

Boston trades: Michael Stewart (No games yet played in 2004/05)
    C Raef LaFrentz (10.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.2 minutes)
SG Ricky Davis (14.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 32.2 minutes)
Boston receives: C Dale Davis (2.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.5 apg in 14.7 minutes)
PG Derek Fisher (10.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 26.1 minutes)
SF Mike Dunleavy (11.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg in 31.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.9 ppg, +0.8 rpg, and +2.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Golden State and Boston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Golden State and Boston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

We let Cliff go via free agency and sign Swift, let Cliff go, get a SF to backup Pietrus in the draft, get rid of Cheany for a second rounder for this year, waive Michael Stewart, and get someone to backup Speedy and Flores via free agency or via draft

PG: Speedy Claxton/ FA or Draftee/ Luis Flores
SG: Jason Richardson/ Ricky Davis/ Draftee
SF: Mickael Pietrus/ Ricky Davis/ Draftee/ Zarko Carparkapa
PF: Troy Murphy/ Raef LaFrentz/ Zarko Carparkapa
    C: Steromile Swift/ Adonal Foyle/ Andris Biedrins/ Raef LaFrentz

    Drool...

just found this out about swifts contract<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Trade Restriction because the player signed a 1 year contract in which they will be a Bird or Early Bird player at the end of the contract</div> he can not be traded so the only hope for him is this offseason in a S&T because memphis has his bird rights so they can match anything we offer if even if they are over the cap, and since the warriors will only have the MLE to work with, memphis would definatly match that offer.

    what about this:

Golden State trades: PG Derek Fisher (10.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 26.1 minutes)

Change in team outlook: -5.6 ppg, +2.0 rpg, and -3.0 apg.

Memphis trades: SF James Posey (8.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.9 apg in 28.5 minutes)
SF Shane Battier (8.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 29.4 minutes)

If we did what we did in my post, I could easily see Swift going for us and telling Memphis no

That looks apealing, but I'd like to get Swift in free agency and somehow get rid of DD

    with your trade though:

    1) cheney is a FA after this season so he doesn't need to be waived
    2) Michael Stewert is going to be a FA too
    3) we take on reaf making 10+ million a year
    4) Ricky Davis jams the backcourt having richardson, pietrus, davis is a playing time jam and would most likely result in pietrus leavng via FA.
    5) All the warriors would have to spen on swift is still MLE and Memphis will match for that, even if he says don't match, and trade him.

there is problems w/ trading for battier since his 6 year extension kicks in after this season, so what about this:

    two trades:

    first,

Golden State trades: PG Derek Fisher (10.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 26.1 minutes)
SF Eduardo Najera (4.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 12.4 minutes)
SF Mike Dunleavy (11.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg in 31.6 minutes)
Golden State receives: PG Jason Williams (11.0 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 6.0 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SF James Posey (8.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.9 apg in 28.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -7.3 ppg, -3.6 rpg, and +0.9 apg.

Memphis trades: PG Jason Williams (11.0 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 6.0 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SF James Posey (8.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.9 apg in 28.5 minutes)
Memphis receives: PG Derek Fisher (10.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 26.1 minutes)
SF Eduardo Najera (4.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 12.4 minutes)
SF Mike Dunleavy (11.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg in 31.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +7.3 ppg, +3.6 rpg, and -0.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

We also throw in a second rounder.

Posey has asked/demanded to be traded because of fratello. Williams is playing behind watson there and has become avaliable.

Fisher gives them a backup pg, and they will take him if we take williams and also west gets dundun who he has wanted since draft day.

eddi is thrown in for the trade to work and for it to be even and realistic.

    second,

Cliffy for TE + first rounder(via clippers)

    is going to happen

    New Lineup:

    PG: Speedy/Williams/Flores
    SG: Richardson/Pietrus/Cheney
    SF: Posey/Pietrus/Cabarkopa
    PF: Murphy/Bierdens
    C: Foyle/DD/Bierdens

Plus our first round pick and the clipper first round pick

also, the only way davis is going to be traded is if it is DD + pietrus or dunleavy for a star player

Now I like that. I think it would work. I would just like Pietrus to start, but I'd like it. We just need a center

swift can't be traded to the team that offered him the contract that gets matched for 1 year. I was just pointing out no need to waive cheney and stewart because they will be FA. So your saying DAvis would be our third string sg, that won't work. what i was saying is that there is 96 minutes availavle at sg and sf for jrich, pietrus, davis, zarko and two draft picks, but jrich and pietrus need to get at least 30 mpg. Davis would just not be a good fit on this team.

Mullin is planning on spending a pick on a SF, we won't need a PG if we do the trade that sends Posey and J-Will over here. Cheany will be gone and we can waive DD or something

Map1986 - about the Williams/Posey trade . . . where do I sign?? It would suck for Speedy, but would be awesome for the Warriors. Williams and Posey . . . can actually hit open 3's . . . Posey can play defense . . . mmmmm. I doubt West would want a Watson/Fisher tandem at the 1, though.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Map1986:</div><div class="quote_post">since the warriors will only have the MLE to work with, memphis would definatly match that offer.</div>

Since he's going to be unrestricted, it doesn't matter if the Grizz match, Swift can go wherever he wants. Unfortunately, there are some enticing teams that can and will offer much more than the MLE, like Chicago and Charlotte, so those are the teams the Warriors would really be competing with. If we could somehow get the $10M exception (Davis??) and an extra first round pick, however, we could offer Memphis the pick for Swift on a sign and trade worth up to $10M.

Thank you. Swift we could get via free agency. Speedy/ J-Will would be a great tandem. Two point guards that can split time and are great at pick-pocketing. Also we need threes.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Pietrus:</div><div class="quote_post">Thank you. Swift we could get via free agency.</div>Unfortunately the chances are kind of slim. In order to do it we need to get a hold of that $10M exception, and NJ doesn't want to give it up, possibly because they want to make a run at Swift using the same technique.
