I rate Stuart Pearce as a person. He's got passion, he worked hard as a player and had quality with it. A few months ago after leading Man City to the top half of the table he was thought by many to be the answer to England success as well. But, as usual in this country, it was slightly premature praise. A few wins and he was thought to be the best manager since, well, the last successful English manager. His Man City team however have quietly slipped down the table and could genuinely be considered relegation contenders. Now, as I said, I like Pearce. I admire him. But I think his style of management on the touchline needs tweaking. He constantly shouts out instructions. He doesn't seem to give his players a moment peace. Rather moments of Pearce. If I was one of his players I'd wonder what my manager was going to shout next, what his next instructions will be. Pearce doesn't seem to let his players settle into their roles. What he does is try to play the game from the touchline. Once Pearce realises that he can't play the game as a manager and that he has to let his players do their thing, I think there could be a good manager in him. But until that time, until he lets go and realises he's a manager now and not a player, until he gives his players freedom, I'm not sure he's going to get the best out of them.
