Stunning sunrise as experts predict coldest winter for a CENTURY
    [IMG]
It could be a Game of Thrones battle scene but this dawn of ice and fiery sky was captured at Dorset’s Corfe Castle.

Sunrise turned clouds an amazing red over a landscape frozen by minus 4C temperatures.

Photographer Matthew Pinner said of the magical scene he captured: “My hands were frozen but it was worth getting up for.”

Snow, ice and temperatures below -15C are on their way as Britain is forecast two months of unusually cold weather over the Christmas period.

Bookmakers cut the odds on the coldest winter for a century to just 3/1 after a weekend that saw the mercury plunge to -5.5C in some parts of the country.

The Met Office warned that after the four-day cold snap there would be further icy periods of snow and frost leading up to Christmas mixed with milder, wetter periods.

A spokesperson said: "There will be sleet or snow at times in the North.

Weather Service International meteorologist Dr Todd Crawford said there would be "below-normal temperatures for the UK for December and January".

The outlook comes after Britain shivered in the coldest snap of autumn so far .

The current El Nino - the most powerful in 144 years - triggered forecasters' warnings of a repeat of Britain's bitter freeze during the previous El Nino in 2009-10, when temperatures fell below -15C.

Britain suffered its worst cold spell for 28 years from mid-December 2009 to mid-January 2009, with whiteouts across the country, Met Office records showed.

Ladbrokes has cut the odds on the coldest winter on record from 4/1 to 3/1.

The coldest winter since records began in 1910 was 1962-63's -0.18 average UK temperature.

Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said: "After the weekend whiteout, punters reckon we'll freeze until February."

The Local Government Association insisted Britain is “one step ahead of the weather” with 1.2 million tonnes of salt stockpiled and fleets of gritters at the ready.

Temperatures over the next few days are expected to hover around 5C in the South and 3C in the North before plunging at the weekend.

The Environment Agency has six flood alerts in place across northern and central England.

Oh, great. Now we'll have to burn even more carbon-based fuel this winter to keep from freezing our asses off and will just hasten the global warming apocalypse.

No, it's called "climate change" because people stopped giving money to stop "global warming."

Just like the word "wetlands" came about because people wouldn't give money to save "swamps."

Well on the bright side. When the next Ice Age is upon us and we are burning oil like the recreation of Hades, just think of the good the new Carbon Tax will do.
Oregon will lead the way, but what will they say?
