BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Celtics probably will have to call off a summer basketball league because of a scheduling conflict with the Democratic National Convention. The convention, set for July 26-29 at the FleetCenter in Boston, locked up hotel rooms and bus transportation, creating planning problems for the Reebok Summer Pro League. The league was to have been played at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, where it has been the past five years. The Celtics need players like Kedrick Perkins, Banks, and Welsch to take advantage of these leagues. And to think last year LeBron was showcased, what a difference a year makes.

From what I've gathered, Perkins is supposed to play in not 1, but 2 leagues this summer to get him ready for nexst year, when the plan is to get him contributing. I'm not sure how cancelling Shaw's/Reebok league affects those plans, but summer league can be an invaluable learning time, if for no other reason than it gets less experienced guys some pt and more importantly, assures taht they are ready and in shape for camp.
I just saw the news. It's not that big of a deal, though those games were great to go to. There's still a lot of other summer leagues for the young guys to play in.
