Howard,Nelson set for debut with Magic "It is physical. But that's the only way they're going to stop me out there," Howard said. "I got to be physical, too. I can't just let them push me around. I got to show them I'm here, too. "I know I have a bull's-eye on me." Says Nelson of Howard, "I've never played with a guy who blocks so many shots. Sometimes he jumps when he doesn't need to, but that's a good thing. He's aggressive." The Magic loved Nelson for his leadership ability. He won a post-practice sprint competition Monday, eliminating Bogans, who pulled up with a leg cramp. Instead of running by himself through lines of applauding players to claim the victory, Nelson called for all of them to run one last sprint. Full Story That's some good news about both of them. Their is a lot howard haters already, but that will all change once they see him play.they will all be jumping on the bandwagon and to bad they can't say they were with him since day one! Nelson is a true leader.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Einitials:</div><div class="quote_post">IMO I think nelson will make a bigger impact than howard next season.</div> Maybe, depends on the mins they both get.
How is Nelson shooting wise? He isn't like another version of TJ Ford or Avery Johnson who are shorter than 6 and can't shoot much farther than that, is he?
I think Dwight will have a better season then Jameer stat wise, but only because Jameer will be on the bench and Dwight will be our starting PF. (since it looks like Gooden will be gone) Hopefully they both dominate the summer league tonight. The next summer league the Magic will have some games on TV!
Weisbrod was talking about putting Stevie at 2 sometimes and putting Nelson at pg, although smaller lineup, it will be NASTY Also, i think howard will be better in the long run. a kid with this much potential has to flourish in an enviroment like orlando. still having t-mac wouldve probably made it worse for howard. the team definetly has good leaders in francis, hill, and maybe nelson too.

Orlando, FL ? Rookies Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson made their highly-anticipated debuts in an Orlando Magic uniform Tuesday evening at the Pepsi Pro Summer League. Unfortunately for them, it didn?t end the way they may have liked. Cleveland battled back from a halftime deficit and defeated Orlando, 89-73, in Game #3 of the Pepsi Pro Summer League at the RDV Sportsplex. Dajuan Wagner scored a team-high 23 points for the Cavaliers, while Luke Jackson added 19. The Magic?s Keith Bogans led all scorers with 24 points. In their first NBA action, Howard tallied seven points, a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, while Nelson contributed 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Both teams shot poorly from the floor during the first quarter. The Magic shot 37.5 percent (6-of-16), but held Cleveland to just 21.1 percent (4-of-19). Behind eight points from Nelson, Orlando took a 17-15 advantage after the opening stanza. Howard blocked three shots during the quarter. Bogans, who had a solid rookie campaign with Orlando in 2003-04, scored six of his 11 first half points during the second quarter. The Magic again clamped down defensively, holding the Cavaliers to 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from the floor and held a 39-33 lead at intermission. After fighting its way back into the contest, Cleveland took a 47-46 edge after Kedrick Brown hit a three-pointer with 7:02 left in the third quarter. After Luke Jackson, the 10th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, nailed a three-pointer from the corner, Wagner hit a trifecta of his own, then converted a driving layup, pushing the Cavs? lead to six points, 55-49. Cleveland outscored Orlando during the period, 28-15, and led 61-54 heading into the fourth quarter. Wagner went 5-of-6 in the period, scoring 12 points. The Cavs continued to put the pressure on during the final stanza. They opened the fourth quarter with a 15-5 run. With 5:09 remaining in the contest, Jackson put the game out of reach with a steal off of an inbounds pass and a rebound jam, giving Cleveland a commanding 76-59 advantage. Dwight didn't do to well on offense.but it was just his first game and he said he was a bit nervous. now that he got the jitters out. I think he should be able to score at will. he dominated on d though and did real good on the boards. All we need now is for the howard haters to label him a bust because he scored 7 points in his first summer league game.I'm glad to see bogans and nelson having good games also.
They started off nice IMO. This is a good sign for a Magic. When the season comes they will do much better.
Nothing to worry about with Howard,I wouldnt even worry about his offensive game,it will eventually come to him,but what I like about his is the 4 blocks the Magic really need defense and it looks like he can help bring it to the team.
4 blocks by a rookie...... DAMN.. This kid is going t o prove everyone wrong about everything they said that was bad about him. 4 blocks against NBA caliber players in his first contest playing against them... Jameer is the man he had a solid game and I only expect better.
From summer league for some of these guys I won't look at points, from Howard I'm interested in seeing his rebound numbers and blocks, and they were pretty good . Jameer Nelson, his assists, and his three point shooting, not so much scoring, not bad start, when Dwight Howard gets comfortable he'll be killer.
Now only if Wagner could kill it in the NBA as a starting PG, then he would have a bright career ahead of him.
I am not surprised to see Orlando go down. Even knowing they got Jameer, Bogans, Howard, the rest of the team consists of Brittens... I also think that Dwight did very well, with the rebounds and blocks on a close-to-NBA level. Jameer did alright too. Anyone know if there is a way to catch these games? I tried NBA TV and buying tickets, but had no luck so far...

I think howard did great most of his points were made on free throws so at least he wasn't backing down. he wasn't going against no name he was matched up against diop who is a big body and was probably trying to throw him around. I predict he will have 15-20 points tomorrow!

Don't start to doubt him, because if I remember correctly, Britton Johnsen outshined Lebron in his 1st game last summer league.
