East Valley Tribune - The Suns are set on exploring the possibility of going after Michael Finley on the free agent market, a league source said Tuesday. The Mavericks bought out Finley for $51 million as a way to avoid paying the NBA's luxury tax. A number of teams with expensive contracts are doing the same thing because of a provision in the new collective bargaining agreement.

The Suns could use a shooter now that Quentin Richardson is going to New York for center-forward Kurt Thomas.

The Suns drafted Finley in 1995. He left in December, 1996 as part of the big trade that brought Jason Kidd from Dallas to the Suns.</div>

Damn, if they acquire Finley it could put them over the top. There already so darn good with Amare, Nash, Matrix, and JJ. Thomas is in the house and bringing Finley in would only do good for the team and the need for a shooter wouldnt be so obvious with Mike coming off of the bench. Depth is the key to a good team IMO, look at the Spurs and last, last years championship pistons.

I would love Finley to come here, if he does and if we sign Hunter we should win it all next year. I wouldn't say we need shooting that much, but it wouldn't hurt. [IMG]

I guess he can also defend well. If we get him cheap it would be awesome...

    Nash
    JJ
    Marion
    Amare
    Kurt

    Hunter
    Jackson
    Finley

    That would be good.

Great addition, but it doesn't guarantee any Championship. The Suns are a Steve Nash or Amare Stoudemire injury away from a losing season.

Another solid veteran hungry to win and with playoff experience, I like what they are doing this off-season so far. I still think the Suns need a veteran PG now, so Nash doesn't have to play 40+ mins. How about the return of Damon Stoudemire to the Arizona area?

I don't know about that...Payton would be better I think. Barbosa may be better this year but we will need a PG if he isn't...

The Suns could use Finley, especially since their bench is so thin. You can tell that when playing against San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals, they lacked those couple of players who can come off the bench and contribute, like the Spurs had.

If the Suns can find a way to get Finley, than it would be a great move for them. Although he was expensive in Dallas I still don?t know why they let him go; he was a valuable contributor. Anyway, if the Suns get him, they will find a player to take Q?s place in the 3-point shooting department only this time, they have one who shoots over 40% from downtown.

Even though he?s 33 years old, he can still run the floor and fit into their offense. In addition, he adds veteran leadership and experience to their roster which will definitely help them when playoff time rolls around. If the Suns can land an athletic big man that can block shots along with Finley, expect them to be better than they were last year.

Talk about a Phoenix Dream team.
    PG: MVP Steve Nash
    SG: future all-star Joe Johnson
    SF: All-star Shawn Marion
PF: All-star and future MVP Amare Stoudemire
    C: double-double average Kurt Thomas

    Bench:
    Awesome Jim Jackson
    Past All-Star Michael Finley
    Rising player Steven Hunter
    Good defender Raja Bell
    Rising Leandro Barbosa
    Great Shooter Dijon Thompson

Dam that bench is good enough to start. We can make a whole other team with our bench and beat many other teams.

Except Hunter is going, and we might not get Finley because we spent the money on Bell.
They only have 1.6 mil. left...

They are going to try and trade Voskuhl and that will probably save them $2.5 mil. So they could spend that money on one more good big man...

My dad said that a good person we could pick up is Dale Davis. He's old, but it's good to have vets on such a young team. He's tough, gets rebounds and defends. And we could get him cheap, like for $1 million.

^If you guys can pick him up at such a cheap price, go for it! That would be a good move and he will add even more defense in the frontcourt in the playoffs.

If we signed Finley we would have too many shooting guards... I would have liked Finley to come but I doubt he will. And yes his experience with Nash would have helped.

The Suns need to get a big man with their remaining money...

Agree 100% ArizonaSports the only option the Suns have at this point is to go big. They have a crowded backcourt as it is.

    PG- Nash, Barbosa
    SG- JJ, Jackson, Bell

I'm afraid you are right Pas. The Hawks FO is also stupid enough to fall for this move by JJ to get more money.

There is noooooooo way Finley is going to the Suns.
Unless JJ signs somewhere and they trade some of their own players.

The Suns have no Money to make it work.
