<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Phoenix Suns | Jason Fleming There seems to be a feeling going around the world of the Phoenix Suns that they didn't make the smartest move when they signed Quentin Richardson to a contract; instead they chose to go sexy. This is probably likely to the fallout that we have discussed here on multiple occasions when it comes to who the starting shooting guard should be - Richardson or Joe Johnson? - but it seems there may be more of an underlying reason as well. Some people simply think the Suns should have saved their money. </div> Link (Hoopsworld) I might be a little biased cause I am a Q fan, but I think they did waste their money. They already had JJ why need for Q, they only thing I can think of is that they have a JJ deal worked out. I think they should have let Q signed somewhere eles.
From the outside looking in, the Sun might have made a mistake. Nash was a good choice, and they paid him well, probably overpaid. But Q didn't really fit into what they need, with JJ already on the team. This seems to have inspired a lot of trade talk since Phoenix obviously has a lot of talent at the 1-2-3 slots, and nothing at center. Dampier signed a contract for $7M, and what was Q, about $6M? The best thing for Phoenix would have been for the Clips to match that offer, then go after Damp. They'd be a serious contender. But it ain't over til it's over, and Marion, JJ and Q are all highly tradable.
Well, the Suns are out West, and they should've thought about this signing a little more before going through with it. I'm sure Joe Johnson will be on the bench...but the problem with that is...Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, and Manu Ginobili (and Ray Allen, if the Sonics make the playoffs). These guys will eat Q-Rich up for lunch on offense...because Richardson has absolutely NO defense whatsoever, and this (and not having a center) will be the beginning of the end for the Suns.
Saving their money might have been a good idea for the Suns.Instead of bringing in Q,they could have saved their money on a center because they already had a solid player in JJ at SG,so there was really no reason to sign Q.JJ who will likely get benched now, only scores a little less the Q but he obviously is a better defender. If the Suns wanted to,they could have saved their money for a solid center that might be coming off the market next off season but they chosed to sign another SG.This signing wasnt nessicarilly the badt thing to do,but I would have gave it some extra thought before I offered Q a deal.
Exactly, maybe instead of going after Q they could have went after a guy like Stromile Swift (who is still on the market), Etan Thomas, or even Brian Skinner. This is coming from a big Q fan here, if they would have saved their money with Q, they could have went after one of those guys, and still have money left over (at least with Skinner and Thomas).
I think the money was wasted, way too much for Nash, and I'd rather have JJ than Q because he's played with these other guys longer, and defense is not in Q's range of skills. The team should've signed Nash for less if it was possible, not gotten Q, and pursued a big man like Blount, Etan, etc who are better than the center's on the team now. I think it would've been much better then. Then they can look to re-signing JJ after this season, or even getting on of them any other guards available. Unless they make a JJ for Nene trade, I think it was stupid.
they had the money to spend...they should have made a move for dampier. he was on the market, and they had the money. instead they went after a player that will give them a lot more flex and skill at the swingman...which is quite attractive, but they'd have been better off with a player like damp to compliment amare
