Suns sign No. 17 pick Cabarkapa PHOENIX (AP) -- The Phoenix Suns signed their top draft pick Zarko Cabarkapa to a three-year contract worth about $3.4 million on Monday. The 6-foot, 11-inch forward was the No. 17 pick overall. The 22-year-old stringbean Serbian was one of two first-round picks of the Suns. Phoenix obtained the No. 24 pick in a trade with San Antonio and selected Brazilian point guard Leandro Barbosa. Although the team did not reveal terms of the contract, the deal follows the rookie scale for first-round picks under the NBA contract with the players' union. Under that scale, Cabarkapa receives $1.06 million next season, $1.14 million the following year, and $1.22 million in 2005-2006. The contract includes a fourth year at the club's option. Cabarkapa is one of 14 players participating in the Suns' rookie camp, which opened Monday at America West Arena. Cabarkapa also will play for Phoenix's team in the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league in Salt Lake City.
