Veteran swingman Jumaine Jones, an unrestricted free agent, is expected to arrive in Phoenix today and have a guaranteed one-year contract with the Suns completed by Thursday. Arizona RepublicThe Suns had Jones on their radar since the free-agent-contact window opened July 1. Now, with Jones unexpectedly still available, Phoenix can have him for a price that keeps the team under the luxury-tax threshold. Arizona RepublicAlso important for Phoenix, he adds another quality defender in addition to last month's prominent free-agent signing - backup point guard Marcus Banks. The Suns likely will not sign any more players to guaranteed deals this summer. Phoenix leaves for training camp in Italy on Sept. 29. Arizona Republicwow suns get another shooter this guy can play both foward spots
My boy is signing with Pheonix! ...o well...this is a good signing for Pheonix if he does indeed sign with them. He's a good rebounder and can make threes all day. He has good hustle as well, there is no doubt in my mind that he will flourish in an offense with Steve Nash as point guard.
With the loss of Tim Thomas it was very important for them to sign Jumaine Jones. Phoenix will be one tough team next year.
This signing makes Piatkowski redundant and a glut at swing. Don't get the move, they need a big more then a wing. Amare, Thomas, Diaw is all they got. Burke and Marks don't deserve recognition.
I hate to say it but the suns this offseason have gotten better Jumain can hit the boards, that's one thing that will help the suns. He'll help them on the boards. That's what suns fans should be happy about, you already have a million shooters.edit: JJ btw is one of m favourite players, very underrated player.
I just read this this morning. I don't know what to think. On one hand he does give us a nice rebounder, an above average defender and a player who fits into our team well. On the other hand I really like James Jones and Jumain looks like he'll be taking most of his playing time away. It's always nice to add some more depth(especially to a 1-year deal, hooray contract year AND playing with Nash!) so I like the move. He's another wing but i'll take it...Thomas/DiawAmare/Ju.JonesMarion/Ja.JonesBell/BarbosaNash/BanksYay, for the first time since ever we have all our positions with good back-ups. I hope they can all get playing time because I don't want to see Marion, Amare and Thomas logging in heavy minutes.OMG, we have 2 JJ's :-o
If anybody fits the run-and-gun system it's Jumaine Jones, a solid signing. I would have loved the Bucks to sign him. He does a little bit of everything but nothing really well and thats why he's still in the league.
he had a few break out games with charlotte. i can see him with a little success with phoenix. i wouldn't be surprised if he ate up all of James Jones' minutes.

The guy is pretty big though. An inch and 14 pounds larger than Marion who played PF for us and 27 pounds bigger than Diaw who played center. I'd like to see what he can do. If he can't guard them well enough we'll have Marion, Diaw, Amare and Thomas to put in the two spots ahead of him. I hope he can play some power forward because I'd hate to see the other JJ thrown out of the rotation. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mavsfan1000 @ Aug 30 2006, 07:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Piatkowski sucks. He was our 11th man and now is 12th, thankfully...Cheap benchfiller. :happy0144:
just bc jones is bigger tahn marion doesn't mean he can play the 4. Marion is a freak athlete, jones is an average one. he can't play the 4.
How does Diaw play the 5? Smaller guys can play bigger positions on this team. Jones is close to PF size.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>How does Diaw play the 5? Smaller guys can play bigger positions on this team. Just because Diaw plays the 5, doesn't mean he's a 5. It's that screwy system Suns utilize. On Jones playing 4, you can't justify it like Diaw at 5. He doesn't play like a big, he's a shooter and can't guard any 4 or 5's, so I don't see why he would work there.
Another great pickup for Phoenix, Jumaine Jones will fit right in. A potentially explosive player who is great at running the floor and can shoot the 3. Jumaine Jones will be the next Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, in terms of being a mediocre guy who comes to Phoenix and thrives.
Awesome signing by Phoenix. Jumaine Jones for league minimum is a great deal. I have always liked Jumaine (and I wished the C's would have played him more) and he's a servicable player. He is really a poor man's James Posey. He can shoot from the outside, he's big for his position, he can rebound, and he really hustles. I think he fits well with Phoenix, and I think he'll do well filling the "Tim Thomas role." Phoenix has done an excellent job in filling out their bench in the past 2 years. They are a much deeper team now, and I love their moves so far this summer (Banks, Jones.. although Piatowski?). They aren't done yet, they still need to fill out the roster. They only have what 11-12 players now?

It seems they are just looking for league minimum guys. Perhaps DeMarr Johnson or a player like that.
