I am just starting to think about this, so this is only the first thing I'm gonna say. I'm going to break it down position by position. I'm going to rate players on a 0 to 5 scale, where 0 is barely good enough to play in the NBA, 1 is well below the NBA average, 2 is a little below the average, 3 is a little above average for the NBA, 4 is well above the NBA average, and 5 is all-star level.

    Center
    Nuggets Camby 4
    Spurs Elson 0

    Power Forward
    Nuggets Nene 3
    Spurs Duncan 5

    Small Forward
    Nuggets Melo 5
    Spurs Bowen 2

    Shooting Guard
    Nuggets A.I. 5
    Spurs Ginobili 4

    Point Guard
    Nuggets Blake 1
    Spurs Parker 5

Bench-Counts Double, so scale is 0 to 10
    Nuggets Smith, Kleiza, Najera 5
    Spurs Finley Barry Horry 9

    Coach
    Nuggets Karl 1
    Spurs Popovich 5

Home Court Advantage: Add 2 to Spurs

    Total
    Nuggets 24
    Spurs 32

The Spur's bench is one of the best, and the biggest reasons for that is the huge 3-point shooting and the skilled, veteran defense it provides. The Nuggets bench score is too high if Smith is not allowed to play much, but it is too low if Kleiza is hitting alot rather than missing alot. Subtract 1 or 2 if Smith is restricted and add 1 or 2 if Kleiza is accurate.

The Nuggets, on paper, have no more than a 1 out of 25 or so chance to beat the Spurs in a 4-game series.

    I'll have more later.

I would normally add 3 or 4 for the home court advantage, but the Nuggets usually play better on the road than in Denver. [IMG]

I estimated the odds at 1 in 25, but that was probably too steep; 1 in 20 is more like it. That means it is very unlikely but not even close to impossible. And for the 1 in 20, I am assuming Kleiza has no 8/9 games.

We have a better chance if Kleiza can hit his shots consistently and if J.R. plays at least 20 minutes a game. If Kleiza has a big series, the odds are more like 1 in 12 or 1 in 10. Then, if A.I. playes like he did Saturday in L.A. or better, that would be huge and would give the Nuggets the likely win any time he played like that. Also, if Melo realizes that A.I. or Kleiza is off in a game and decides to go against the coach and shoot the lights out, he might be able to win a game or two by doing that.

So the odds on paper might really be as good as 1 in 10, not even counting A.I. and / or Melo exploding. With the odds at 1 in 10, the Nuggets would win one game with just a little bit of luck. Then, A.I. could explode in two games and Melo could explode in one game, and there you go, the Nuggets win the series in a huge upset.

The Nuggets definitely match up better with the Suns. This Nuggets team is still unexperienced in terms of unity, while this Spurs team has been playing together for a while now.

But to be honest, as a fan, I'll be expecting them to win whoever they play. Allen Iverson is also one the best playoff performers as well. I think that is going to make Melo that much dangerous as well, because AI will demand a lot of attention. Rather than Melo getting all the defensive attention in past Nugget playoff series.

Iverson is huge in the playoffs. He needs to take control of games and lead this young nuggets team to some road victories. I would def. rather play the suns over the spurs though. That win over the suns earlier in the year where Iverson had 44 pts, and 15 assts was huge. That should give the nuggets some confidence if we play them.

    Go Nuggets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is now 5-0!

This was another huge win for the Nuggets. Kleiza hit his shots and the rebounding was great. I'll have much more in my game report.

I thought of another reason why the Nuggets can beat the Spurs: the Spurs have won titles already in recent years but the Nuggets, of course, have not, so the Nuggets may want it more.

Oh, and recently Blake is playing at level 2 or 2 1/2.
