Nov 2 - The Cavs decided not to pick up the option in Shannon Brown's contract for next season, a surprising move for last year's first-round draft choice. He's the only first-round draft choice GM Danny Ferry has been able to make in his three-year tenure.

Brown, who was taken aback by the decision, will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. He would have made $1.1 million next year if the Cavs had picked up his option.

The Cavs might look to trade Brown before February's trading deadline.

''None of these decisions are simple,'' Ferry said. '' I really like Shannon. At this point, we haven't used him a whole lot. We felt it was the right decision for now, and it's something we can address at the end of the year.'' -- Akron Beacon-Journal
