of disregard that message....i thought it said SABAN seeks trade, not Surtain. But why would we get rid of Surtain, hes one of our best defensive players/
Umm...Surtain himself was a 2nd rounder.....Madison was a 2nd, Jason Taylor was a 3rd, Zack Thomas was a 5th....the only 1st rounders that started for the Dophins last year were Tim Bowens and Junior Seau....out of 22 starters, 2 were 1st rounders.....some teams have a few more, but the majority of NFL starters were not 1st round draft picks....there is talent throughout the draft and getting a 2nd for Surtain is not a bad deal, although I want a 1st and I cant believe a team desperate for defense like the Chiefs or Packers wouldnt be interested in him....
His cap number next year is $8 mil and its the last year of the deal....Any team that trades for him will do so with the intent to extend him and lower that number....I think something will get done, particularly with teams like San Diego and Dallas that need a CB, think they are close to be a Super Bowl threat and have 2 1st round picks....
Dallas for sure...San Diego has some youth at that spot and got by without Sammy Davis for a portion of this season...I think they might be set with him and Jammer for a few years...and the little I saw of Drayton Florance he didn't look bad either and they are going into their 3rd or 4th season.
I'll say it again. The Rams would kill to have 1 quality CB & in my mind would make a perfect trade partner.
Why do I think they will find a trading partner for Surtain? Because he is an upgrade for every team in the league....He wouldnt upgrade the #1 on every team, but he would upgrade the #2 for sure....I could even see a team like Denver be interested in teaming him with Bailey....a pro bowl CB really can upgrade a defense in a hurry....Surtain has intercepted more passes in the last 5 years than any other CB and he did it while on an island playing bump coverage, teams should be lining up for him....
I can't imagine the all other 31 teams NOT lining up for him. On 2nd thought, Seattle has a good young secondary so they may not be interested.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (blackadder)</div><div class='quotemain'>I can't imagine the all other 31 teams NOT lining up for him.</div> I would imagine that the trade would have less to do with the interest of the 31 teams and more to do with the extension that they will need to sign with Surtain. His asking price is going to dictate interest level. That aside, I think Miami could get a #2. Teams would have to be pretty desperate in order to give a #1 for a guy that likely has to be gone one way or another before March 2....even ones like Dallas and San Diego that have two choices. Dallas certainly needs two #1s more than San Diego, so maybe the Chargers will bite. I could see Dallas using their high #2 potentially if they think that Pete Hunter won't service their needs coming off of the injury. Will injury concerns and mediocre workout ethic be a factor?
