i had to think about this in the top players thread in general nba. Who's better for the team? Note: this does NOT mean who's more talented.discuss.
I personally think they both carry the team pretty evenly. Yao is big and can get those shots in easier but T-mac is better all-around. Before T-mac going out i thought he led the team but watching Yao put up a good fight to the Lakers and beating my team, the wizards i changed my mind.
It's close, because T-Mac gets injured a lot.But when he's not playing his team is probably the worst in the league. So because it's not about talent - TMAC!!!
i think this team is depends on t-mac more. t-mac was able to lead orlando to the playoffs by himself, while yao wouldnt be able to. if yao wasnt on this team and t-mac was healthy, they wouldnt dominate or anything, but they would prolly be just like the Lakers.
yes, they have a horrible record without T-Mac, but some of those games TMac missed, yao was out as well. And you have to take into consideration that Houston is deeper in the post then they are at SF. They still have Juwan Howard, Stromile Swift and Dikembe, whereas at SF they only have Keith Bogans, who is actually a combo guard.
At this point, I'd take Yao on my team to build around. However, there is no question TMac has more skill. He is still much more of an offensive threat than Yao is at this point.
The stat that proves this is thatRockets are:5-22 without TMac6-15 without YaoRockets aren't much without both but they are worse without TMac and he is the one that sort of runs the Rockets offense because he has the ball most of the time. He is vital to the Rockets offense.
This is ridiculous. No question T-Mac. Bottom line is Rockets can win with T-Mac having a great game and rest of team sucking. Rockets can't win with only Yao having a great game and everyone else sucking.
yea t-mac is more valuable to the rockets TEAM.but yao is such a dominant post man. someone already made a good point that the rockets team has a weak backcourt when t-mac's out. but their post is still pretty solid even w/o yao.and t-mac is more valuable w/ his defense and leadership as well. even though yao is fitting the role better every day.
Like I said:You take Yao for the future. The guy hasn't scratched his potential, and this year has become a 25+ PPG and 10 Rebounds guy. Since the All Star break, he has been putting up some of the best numbers in the NBAHowever, In terms of who is the better palyer, it's naturally TMac. We are talking about a guy who had one of the most impressive playoffs ever last year, gets you 25, 6, and 6 a game, and is as scary of a player as they come
We aren't talking about who is the better player or who will be more important in the future to the Rockets, we are talking about who is more important now to their team success, and the answer is undeniably Tmac.
Steve Francis and now Tracy McGrady really carried these teams. Now that Yao Ming is becoming a dominant force in the NBA he has to learn how to lead his team.Right now, Tracy McGrady, IMO.
Not even close. T-Mac is clearly more important to this team and no team looks worse without their star than Houston without T-Mac. Amazing the difference with T-Mac out and when he is in. They go from a playoff contender to one of the worse teams in the league.
