Al Harrington. He was waived by Orlando and cleared waivers. He's owed $14.7M, but we would only have to pay the vet minimum, if he would play for us. He's big enough to play C, and he's not of he geriatric sort of player Gar likes to stick Thibs with. He did have surgery last year, and a complication (staph infection). A year ago, he put up 14/6 in 27 minutes.
I've never been a fan of Harrington's game (like Dunleavy, he's what I consider a soft big), but if he's healthy, he'd be great value at the vet minimum. Says here that he's lost 27 pounds. If he needed to lose 27 pounds, that's not an entirely good thing, but if he didn't need to lose it, that's even worse. Word is that Paxson's always been a Harrington fan.
By this point I think we can all agree that our choices are pretty darn limited for our last roster spot. I'm not sure Al's a great fit, but he sure looks a lot better than anybody else who looks like they migh be willing to play for our vet min.
We could do worse. He may be big enough to play center, but I think Gibson would play it more than he would.
Here's another way to look at it. Down 16. Thibs looks to his bench to find nothing but Nazr. Ugh. Down 16. Thibs looks to his bench to find a choice of Nazr or Harrington. At least he has a choice. Maybe you want to try to get stops 8 times and 8 buckets to tie it up. Maybe you need to trade baskets with them and catch up a bit at a time very time they miss.
