I AM a little worried about the NRL's future.

Not about the Storm, or the salary cap. My only concern is about the likelihood of expanding the NRL to a 17, or even, 18-club competition.

Expansion might have slipped off the public radar in the wake of the salary-cap controversy, but as recently as last month NRL boss David Gallop was talking about a new entry as soon as 2013.

Perth and Central Coast are in his sights and Central Queensland still has a shot.

But from what I've seen this year, I don't think there's enough depth of talent to fill another club, let alone two.

I might get in trouble for saying this, but there are a few blokes in the NRL who should consider themselves lucky to be playing first grade.
