QUOTE

Talks Get Ugly
Both spoke with ESPN.com for a story that was posted Monday afternoon. It is an extension of the impasse as the media is now becoming a place to do bargaining.

This entire unprecendented ordeal, which has to feel like a never-ending cold for Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry, Varejao and Fegan, has slipped into a counterproductive posturing phase. The plain reality is that this has become like a factory strike, the management feels demands are too high and the union member feels he's a poor little guy not being treated fairly. -- Akron Beacon-Journal

[*]Ferry said he made a surprise visit to Varejao at his parents' home in Brazil in October because he said agent Dan Fegan and Sandro Varejao cut off all communication between the GM and the player. Sandro is Varejao's older brother, who is now working for Fegan.
"It was inaccurate to say I went down there to make him sign a contract," Ferry said Monday. "That's totally incorrect.

"I told him we are not paying him $10 million a year. My conversation was, 'You have to share the risk. You can take a shorter deal or a longer deal. I'll work with Dan (Fegan). But we are not going to do something stupid.'" -- Willoughby News-Herald

[*]As he could do again next summer if he sits out the entire season, Varejao could have taken a $1.2 million qualifying offer this summer, but he and Fegan turned it down in pursuit of a deal worth more than $10 million a year.
Player and agent now deny they initially sought that much, but Cleveland sources say Fegan's first proposal, in late September, was for a six-year, $64 million deal. A month later, he lowered his demands to six years and $52 million. Both deals contained a team option but were laced with incentives that would have allowed Varejao to earn more. -- Medina Gazette

6 years for $52 million is a joke. Basicaly $9 million per year - it's absurd. There are better things for us to do with that sort of cash.

I don't have any idea why the Cavs are even listening to this clown. He is NOT worth anywhere near 10 million a year. In my opinon I wouldn't pay him a cent over 5 a year, and thats generous. I've said it before I'll say it again, there are tons of energy guys out there who will play their heart out for much much less than Varajao.
