Sunday's 2011 Arena Football League debut was at times encouraging for a young Tulsa Talons squad and new starting quarterback Bobby Reid.

But it went down as a loss because the Talons couldn't do what more experienced AFL teams often can't do. They couldn't stop the opponent.

Brett Elliott threw three touchdown passes as the Georgia Force prevailed 53-47 in the Gwinnett Center.

Reid, the former Oklahoma State quarterback, ran for four TDs and threw for three others - all to Trent Shelton.

Reid set a franchise record by racing 39 yards for a score in the second quarter and had a 34-yard scoring run in the third quarter. The previous long run from scrimmage by a Talon was a 37-yarder by Odie Armstrong last year.

Unofficially, Reid totaled 91 rushing yards on six carries and 209 passing yards. But he also had a costly turnover, fumbling after a 12-yard run to snuff out a scoring threat.

Tulsa trailed 27-19 at halftime and never led, but kept the game close until early in the fourth quarter when the Force finally got a three-possession lead.

Shelton's 42-yard scoring pass to Maurice Purify made it 47-33 with 9:23 left.
