After watching him last nite , I believe his troubles are not physical, looks to me it is more mental. If this team is to go deep into PS they better get him into therapy. Don't know if anyone noticed , he threw a pitch, ball was hit, not at him, ellsbury made the play, tanaka reacted as if ball was coming at his head, I think he is scared. I have not seen many of his starts , did he take a hit or something, cause you don't see pitchers react like that,
...I don't know what the problem is...all I know is that for the Yanx to be a threat Tanaka needs to be dominant.
If it's not the tear in his elbow then it's protecting the tear in his elbow. If that's the case he should've had it fixed. His accuracy is way the hell off. You're talking about a 3.80era now which is not an ace.
Like I already mentioned this is not the same guy that started his career 11-1 with a 1.99 ERA & 113 Ks in 96 innings.
The tear is repaired. He changed his delivery (arm angle, release point and velocity)....and its not working. This is bad mechanics reinforced with mental aspects. If you look at his fan graphs you can see the shift he's made....a good 2-3" more to the vertical (vs horizontal).
I agree with this thought... and if he's constantly fearing it will tear, he isn't going to be pitching to his full potential which won't help much
...^^^ This. ...I doubt Tanaka is worried about his elbow going out anymore than any other pitcher worries after TJ surgery.
